it would be a bad move to do marner for elhers straight up, let alone add liljegren

Marner is a lot better than Ehlers, Winnipeg has to add a lot for him

Retain half Marner's salary and maybe then there's hope Winnipeg adds more to the deal

Sure Marner is the better player but it’s a lot closer then you think. Especially when Ehlers cap is half of Marners.

I wouldn't touch this trade if I'm Winnipeg. The gap between players is pretty small but the gap between contracts is massive.

Rather keep Ehlers at half the cost. At least he plays physical and while may not be Marner, is still pretty dynamic and can tilt the ice.

Ehlers has had one season where he was CLOSE to having a ppg season, Marner has had 3 seasons well above a ppg including this year where he was top 5 in points. Plus Marner is younger, so you can keep Ehlers

Sounds good to me; we'll keep him! Guess it's only okay for (most) Leaf plans to think Marner isn't worth the dollars paid him. Every year when Toronto underperforms in the playoffs the whole country gets to hear and read how he's garbage and dead weight and should be shipped out of town. But Winnipeg should be honored to take that garbage at full price whilst giving you one of our best players this season. "Oh, and it needs to be more than just Ehlers because Marner is awesome!!" Of course!

Gifted player, but that contract is an albatross and you're stuck with it in all likelihood. Good news is he's one hell of a player as you say, so good problem to have I suppose!

And you have fun building a team that one day makes it out of the first round.

Are you referring to games won, or series won? And are we talking about just this year, or the last 5 years, as well??? Regardless, please fill me in how each teams playoff numbers suggest in any way that Toronto's roster is poised to win now more so than Winnipeg's is?

I'll take the 45 million the Jets commit to 5 talented forwards, a Vezina winning goalie, and a top D-man over the nearly 41 million Toronto commits on it's top 4 forwards, alone.
