Nucks go ALL in 2022 cup

Created by: mango
Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 8, 2021
Published: Jun. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Benning can't waste anymore time with Petey and Hughes, the picks traded away are unlikely to help the core before they're 30, especially Miller, Schmidt and Horvat. The time is now!

I kept this years first as it's likely this player (Hughes?) can help this time next year when we're making our cup run. I know lots will be concerned about the picks traded away but the highest pick will be next year at around 25-32 if all goes as planned.

Landeskog, while being slightly overpaid is the kind of player this team needs and will provide the depth we have been looking for.

Barrie and Oleksiak will make for an excellent second pair, one that can advanced the puck to our skilled forwards. In my opinion Barrie is being asked to do too much in Edmonton but if used in the right role I believe he can succeed.

Stastny will make for a perfect 3rd line center and can mentor Petey. He will also provide a skilled veteran presence on the second unit PP with Barrie and Landeskog.

Sens Don't need another 2nd that badly. Also Stastny will get way better offers than that.

Landeskog is not worth even close to $9M and this team is not at all cup ready. This team finished 24th in the league and there's still no depth.

Benning completely screwed this franchise with his offseason last year. Very disappointing.

This team sucks though. Bottom 6 is brutal. D-core is very leaky defensively, top 6 is pretty decent but for 9.5 million they should have some one better than Landeskog in the spot.

If petey gets injured mid season again this isn’t even a playoff team.

Depth? What about Stastny and the 3rd line, that would be a solid 3rd line. Landeskog is worth at least 8.5 million and I paid him a bit more to get him out of Colorado, also he will have to pay Canadian taxes.

Hmm.. Very interesting.. If Benning manages to pull these deals off I could see the Canucks being a contender for years to come. Good work on this, you have given me hope for this upcoming off season as well as things to consider for the team moving forward.

Detroit have no roster spot open on wing.

Detroit will also be offered much much better cap dump deals than this.

Eriksson would cost a 1st. Whether that's a 2021, 22 0r 23 first doesnt really matter but 6m in salary is a first.

Ottawa just got a 2nd for taking on 3m in salary from TB. Why take double the salary on at the same price?

Stastny is not very good and he's not taking that absurd salary. Landeskog is a good player but propped up heavily by Rantanen and Mack. He is definitely not worth $8M.

Plus, you're at 21 contracts and basically over the cap. Not gonna work.

remember it will be a flat cap , Landeskog won't be getting offers @9.5 . Hughes number is on the low end . Barrie for 6 years would be a massive mistake. Stastny should get better offers for 1 year, say 3mil
