I'm guessing either Buffalo or Seattle gets the 1st overall in 2022 and 2023.

Maybe, but I can't see Seattle being bottom 10 if they get Eichel. The expansion teams give them good depth but no stars, this trade would fix that

This post is a little bit janky but I like it conceptually much more than most Buffalo AGMs tho I dunno if Buffalo can tank for about a decade all told

So much for Buffalo fans to keep enduring

Also oddly cyclical given the last tank produced the players you're trading away... when does the crazy cycle end and they start going for it? Idk. 🤕

The 2021 1st isn't available unless we're getting someone elite back. Reinhart does not qualify.

Does seem good for CBJ to have high standards overall but in a practical sense seems very unlikely they draft someone with that pick better than Samson

With how weak this draft is relatively:

Reckon picks 1-9 will turn into 50 pt F and 30 pt D roughly (Chris Kreider, Erik Johnson, etc.) at best... much moreso like picks 5-15 in a regular draft

It's less "weak" and more "underscouted". And such a player would fit better with our timetable in any case.

The number 5 pick in this draft doesn't get you an elite player in trade. I don't believe the #1 pick can get an elite player back if the Sabres were looking to deal it. Reinhart is a very good player and would be a good fit as the 1C for the Blue Jackets.

Gosh, then I guess we're just going to have to make the pick, now, aren't we. How horrible.

I'll believe he's a #1C when he manages to pull off #1C level production and #1C level performance against actual top-line opposition for something more than a mere 5% (1/20th) of an over 450-game NHL career. Until then, he's a RW. A pretty decent RW, to be sure - but we don't need another RW.
