Why's that?

The way I looked at it for them , their cap is abit tight and they have alot of players to resign who all need raises. Some picks, a former highly touted prospect and a talented middle 6 player ,plus they gain cap space.

The picks are a bit less than I'd like in return for Arvidsson. I've got no interest in swapping Sissons for Kerfoot. Sissons is a little cheaper, has proven to be both a great fit on the herd line, and has the ability to play higher in the lineup when called upon. Kerfoot is more redundant with NSH already having Jarnkrok, Cousins, Granlund (likely to get re-signed), etc. Svechnikov doesn't bring much value. The Preds could have picked him up for free, any of the times he was waived this past season.

This is such a bad deal. The Leafs get no value and fix nothing.

They can flip him at trade deadline if they can't get him extended.

Get no value? Arvidsson can play on the first line spot that's empty after Hyman leaves. He'll easily fill that loss and brings that hard working effort the leafs need. He's also locked in for the next 4 years at a very reasonable rate.
Sissons has a few extra years on him over kerfoot but he fills that 3rd line center role at a cheaper rate with abit more emphasis on defense in his game and consistency.
Leafs also gain cap space, which is like finding gold for this team heading forward.

Honestly, leafs would be lucky to get these guys...

1st, highly doubt Reilly resigns with Wings as they are in a rebuild, two if he gets hurt during season and is out, they can not trade a guy who will not play and will walk at end of season. Too much risk and not enough reward for a team and picks. At best they may and stress may get a 1st for him at the deadline, but again of he has a bad season also value is diminished and could walk away with less, then a 2nd.

It would be more prudent to keep picks and not risk a bad scenario where he walks for less then what he was traded for or nothing.

They're definitely in a rebuild but they have enough picks, and pieces already in place that they could be relevant again within 3 years. Having Reilly added to their top pair would really help fill out their top 3 and maybe fast forward the build.

but really, it's nice to have 20+ picks in the next 2 years but your not going to use those all in the draft, they're also currency for trades to aquire nhl players.

Why not try adding a top pair player...

I agree, doubtful all picks are used to draft, and adding a player for picks is possible. But the player who Yzerman trades picks for, will need more term on his contract.

This trade will end up like the Tyler Seguin trade. While I do agree that Arvidson and Scissons are good, it makes no sense to move Kerfoot right now because he's a solid depth forward for the Leafs. Also the Leafs shouldn't trade Mitch and Rielly unless they get another player that's better or just as good in return.
