Do not protect Tavares and protect Kerfoot instead. If Seattle takes Tavares it gives us cap space and if they take Engvall it would be even more beneficial.

    Tavares has a NMC. He'd have to waive it, which would be awfully weird since he wanted to play in Toronto...

    Even if he was willing to waive (unlikely), this would only hurt the Leafs. You can argue Tavares isn't worth his contract but you're choosing to lose an elite player over a middle 6 option. It would also likely discourage any big UFAs from signing here in the future

    that would be a terrible idea. One, Tavares isnt going to waive, two you dont just give away 1st line calibre centers. 3 my god what an awful trade for Morga Rielly, zacha is just awful and isnt worth Rielly's extra jockstrap in a trade one for one

    Flames would be crazy to retain 2+ million dollars on a guy for 5 years, I don't think that trade makes any sense for the Flames at this point, their finally solid on the right side and everyone knows Tanev could go down with an injury at any time.
