Do you think Fleury is worth his 5.75m to the Flames for the next two full seasons?

Why? Would Marc Andre-Fleury waive his NMC for a team that's more or less probably not going to make the playoffs. Don't see him agreeing to go to Calgary.

I kinda looked at it this way

Fleury does play much better when the net is his and has been a number one goalie for most of his career. Calgary is still holding a wild-card spot using Johnson as their starter, but considering Johnson is more of a career backup I don't see him taking them to the playoffs or at least very far. (He's only played more than 30 games once and is 30 years old)

Calgary could just wait till the offseason to try to sign bishop, but that probably means they're giving up on the playoffs and bishop would probably cost 6+ per and that's considering they actually sign him.

I can see the pens retaining up to 1.75 on fleury too. If they buy him out it's going to cost about 1.9 per season for 4 years, so I'd rather pay less for 2 years and get something in return.

At this point I think Flower want's to play. I think he would realistically take a trade to any team that will give him the net.

I like the bones of this trade - Fleury for Elliott and Wideman. Pens get off the hook for having to protect Fleury during the expansion and get a decent backup goalie. Flames get a goalie who can/should be a #1 and get Wideman's contract off their roster.

Quibbles: Wideman also has a NMC. So that's 2 D with NMCs for the Pens. Who'll be the 3rd D protected? Also, not sure Calgary will both retain salary and give up a 2nd rounder.

You bring up a good point that I didn't consider in regards to widemans NMC. Maybe they can work out something where wideman agrees to waive and there's a conditional 3rd round pick if he goes back on it (not really sure if that's allowed). Pens could also take less back and Engelland instead.

Expiring NMC's don't need to be covered for the expansion draft, so whoever has Wideman at the end of the season doesn't have to protect him. The only players who have mandated protection are those that have an active NMC next season.
