Description

Trade happens at the conclusion of the season, but before the expansion draft.
Toronto gets a young, puck-moving, shut-down LHD to solidify their top 4. Wild get an expansion exempt winger with loads of potential.

Wild protect Parise, Koivu, Pominville, Nino, Granlund, Coyle, Zucker, Suter, Spurgeon and Dumba.
If Pominville decides to waive his NMC, Staal is protected.

Vegas takes the cheaper option of Haula and his speed and PK skills over Scandella due to Scandella having, at best, a so-so year and his $4 million price tag.

I think Toronto is overpaying, you arn't going to get one of Toronto's three young guns unless you give up an arm and a leg. Also Brodin is a LHD, and the leafs have Rielly and Gardiner who are both puck moving mobile LHD who are in the their 20's, I think Spurgeon makes more sense.

A fairish trade value wise, Wild should probably add something.

Tor shouldn't touch it with a 10' pole. Better ways to get a d-man that trade a young core piece like Nylander.

I agree with the others, I doubt Nylander gets moved at all unless they get something ridiculous. Also, I think all those contract values are off. For example, because Reilly's QO is $971,250, I see no reason he takes 2 years at $800,000. Olofsson's QO is also more than $800,000. No way Kuemper signs for 2 years here and there's no reason it should be for $1,500,000. That's way too much for his 3.16 GAA and .907 SV% on one of the best defensive teams in hockey.

I plugged Kuemper in there because it was the easiest thing to do. I don't care if he stays or goes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Rielly plays Right D. Leafs have Rielly and Zaitsev on the right and Gardiner on the left. Everything I read and hear from Leafs fans is the need for a top 4 LD.

He's a LHD and he does play the left side. This trade would be awful for the leafs. Nylander is on pace to be a top line player and Brodin is a decent top 4 D with no offensive upside. Also the wild are not in a position of strength. They may lose brodin for nothing due to expansion draft. Don't see any team paying anywhere close to full value to help them out. And Nylander is a heavy overpayment.

You Leafs fans no nothing about Brodin! He's been absolutely fantastic this season and has taken a quantum leap (thanks to Yeo getting the boot) offensively! Prior to breaking his finger, he might have been the Wild's best defenseman...including Suter! Trading him for Nylander would be an even swap. Whether or not it's a trade that would help both teams or not...I don't know. I'll give you Spurgeon and a 2nd for Nylander if you want a right-shot d-man.

That's a little overkill. Suter has been the best d-man by far, easy comparison is how Dumba played when paired with either of them. Brodin has been 2nd best d-man is a discussion, with Spurgeon. I say Brodin easily over Spurgeon, but others disagree. Brodin has been playing as a 3D that's more important than the 2D (Spurgeon) this year.

Brodin is more noticeable when he's not in the lineup than when he's on the ice. Wild have really missed him since he's gotten hurt.

That news is a gamechanger.... Now they can negotiate as of March, so plenty of time to straighten out the cost with vegas of protecting extra players by giving them picks or prospects

I may have over-stated it a bit, but my point is spot on...Brodin is very, very good! To your point, because he doesn't jump off the page with his play, he can easily go unnoticed to someone who doesn't get a chance to watch him often. For those of us who get to watch him on a nightly basis, he is a fantastic player! Add in his team-friendly contract, I think he is definitely worth a player like Nylander in a trade.
