No thanks from LA. They don't have any interest in Dermott (they'd just lose him in the expansion draft), and a 3rd round pick isn't enough return to convince them to trade away the best goaltender in franchise history while retaining 50% salary for 2 years. Also, the Kings don't have another NHL ready backup goaltender and don't need the cap space, so they're content to just keep Quick and let him play 20-25 games behind Petersen.

I mean he can play the right side too.

Quick is far from a player that should be making 6 mil. Dermott can play the left or right side and can make the trade after the expansion draft to prevent them from losing him. Kings can also sign a cheap replacement (reimer, bernier...) to play backup or work as a tandem, while being upgrades over quick

What difference does it make what position Dermott plays? LA doesn't have enough protection slots for him, so he'll be lost to Seattle. He's not worth protecting over Roy or Walker. LA already has a guy that can play both sides in Clague. They'd rather give him a chance then bring in a new bottom pairing guy. They also have guys like Hults and Strand looking to make the full time jump to the NHL.

Cap hit only matters for teams that need cap space. LA is currently sitting on $20M+ in cap space. As far as they're concerned, they're paying him for past performance. They can afford to have a goaltender making $6M, even if he's serving as a backup. He's a fan favorite and has earned the right to finish out his contract with the Kings. Unless Seattle decides they want him, Quick isn't going anywhere.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks Quick is so terrible. He outperformed Petersen this year, winning 2 more games than Petersen despite getting 10 fewer starts. He actually had a winning record this season (11-9-2). He was pretty terrible at the beginning of the season, but had something like a .940 SV% after taking multiple games off. He'll do just fine as a backup.

Thanks for going on endlessly about why not to make this deal. There's no way we should be trading for an over-the-hill, overpaid sieve.

As I said, they make the trade AFTER the expansion draft so LA doesn’t have to worry about them. And LA does need to worry about cap space, they’re a team that’s got a shot at a wildcard spot next season and should target big free agents. As far as quicks performance last season, he was nowhere near as good as Cal Peterson, who was one of the best goalies in the league this year

Their records say otherwise.

Quick: 11-9-2, 2.86 GAA
Petersen: 9-18-5, 2.89 GAA

For those who don't watch either goalie play very much, Petersen has a problem with rebound control, often causing him to make 2-3 saves on a scoring chance that Quick would have smothered in only one. Hence why you see increased shot totals (and resulting increased save percentage) for Petersen. Honestly it's one of Petersen's only weaknesses and hopefully they can coach it out of him.

Both goaltenders were quite good this year. LA is happy with both going forward.

The sarcastic "endlessly" part and the part where you completely ignored the argument I was making and called Quick a sieve.

I was just thanking you because I have better things to do than write novels on here. And, for different reasons, we both agree not to make that horrid trade. I don't care what your motives are, I was thanking you for arguing against it!!
