Isles Palmieri instead of Eberle

Created by: si5137
Team: 2021-22 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2021
Published: Jun. 27, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a deeper look at a scenario where Eberle is selected by Seattle and how the isles build their team.

Dal Colle and Bellows re-upped at league minimums.
Palmieiri 4 year contract at the Toffoli number.
Beauvillier signs a shorter deal that buys out the 1st year of UFA - he will bank on the market improving in 3 seasons from now where he will be 27/28.
Pelech gets his 6 year at 5 AAV - doesn't have the offensive numbers to warrant higher than 5.
Sorokin's deal looks like Elvis Merzlikins deal.
Casey's deal at 3 AAV is in line with Lowry. 3 years is fair.

I'm very interested in seeing how this summer plays out for the Isles, lot of manuevering needs to be done by Lou but I think you'll see a Toews type of deal done to try to keep the most players he can. Eberle being exposed is an interesting idea and not one I had heard until recently, there might be something there even though he's been decent for you guys. Only "issues" I have with your team is Cizikas I think will take a discount to stay but he may want 4-5 years. Palmieri the other, he probably will want a 5 year deal but if it's for shorter length I think he's going to want more $ than he was just getting. I know he wants to stay in the NY area so maybe a 5 AAVx4 years would get it done or a 4.5AAV for 5 years.

Pelech really is the X factor, this playoff run really upped his value as he probably could have been signed 5x5 after the regular season. With him coming off a deal that didn't pay him very much, I could see him trying to cash in big time with 6 million plus or again taking a little less money to have a 7 year deal.

As a Rangers fan I hope these guys try to maximize their value but as a hockey fan I'm very interested in the moving parts on the Island this summer.

I don't like the idea of keeping Palmieri and I like the idea of dumping Eberle for nothing even less.

He was good in the playoffs but he was terrible in the regular season, both with us and the Devils and I don't want to be stuck with another Ladd. Would rather take the risk that he ages gracefully without us than the risk he does with us, if that makes sense.

Eberle, meanwhile, has been the perfect compliment for Barzal for the last two seasons and has given them no reason to dump him.

Dont think pelech gets 6 mill - his underlying numbers were elite this season but counting stats affects salary and he doesn’t put up many points so I think he’ll get in the 5-5.5 mill range. He would be worth it if he gets over 6 mill, but that’s highly unlikely.

Last season fans wanted to trade toews because he was brutal against Tampa but Palmieri was arguably worse this playoff run and every ACGM has him getting 5 years until he’s 35 lol.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Eberle gets taken in expansion, but it only makes sense if it’s being done to add more term to beauvillier + pelech . Doing it to sign a soon to be 4th liner in palmieri shouldn’t be the plan.

    Palmieri against TBL:
    7 games
    0 points
Turned the puck over in game 5 and lost his man on a goal

I’d rather trade Varlamov or let Cizikas walk than expose Eberle to Seattle. The fact that a team that struggles offensively as much as we do would consider letting one of their better offensive players be taken in an expansion draft for nothing is laughable, regardless of the money situation.

Those two alternatives + trading Leddy should be come before trading Eberle when it comes to trying to fit everything

I agree, and varlamov has value in a trade. Someone would overpay. If Eberle is exposed, Seattle will take him. They have a huge analytics department.

Barzal also needs at least one winger who can read off of him and be highly effective in transition. Barzal needs someone who can think like him and also have the puck skills to execute give and go plays through the neutral zone. If isles exposed eberle and then signed Tomas tatar to a 4 mill x 2 deal, I’d be in favor of that.

I like Tatar, but I think he scores more than a 2-year deal this coming summer.

I don't think Beau and agent try to sign a long term deal just yet - IMO, I think player and agent will angle for a shorter deal and try to maximize long term when financial landscape improves.

Because of escrow it’s in beaus best interest to sign a 4-6 year backloaded deal. That’s how he would maximize his earnings. Then he can sign a 7 year deal when he’s 27-29 years old.

He has been a healthy scratch during the playoffs despite being one of the best wingers on the Canadians. That will affect how much term he gets.

Beauvillier is a great fit as well, but Wahlstrom was also great in transition this season and he's known for being able to read off of elite centers.

With their chemistry (which might not be there anymore for lack of play), overall talent, and skillset fit a beau-barzy-wahlstrom would be a scary line especially if we have 27-29-12 the next one.

Wahlstrom and beauvillier were 2nd and 3rd in defensive impact this season among isles forwards so it would make sense.

I know but that line would still be "a defensive liability" lmao. Oh i got why though... its bc eberle and lee are elite 2 way forwards lol.

Lee is by far the worst defensive forward on the isles. Most isles forwards are at least average, but in the playoffs some players were awful defensively - Nelson was pretty bad and Bailey was by far the worst.
