Respectfully, not sure how Copley is a proven backup since he hasn't played an NHL game in the past 2 years. I would swap Hagelin for Engvall straight up if it wasn't for the cap hit but Toronto can't afford Hagelin at that price

Makes sense. Thanks. I'm assuming Tor loses Kerfoot in expansion, opening up enough cap for Hagelin and a cheap UFA 3C.

Copley is really just insurance in case Andersen does not re-sign cheaply. He had a 16 win season, tying him with Quick for 34th in wins that year. Better team, but fewer games played. In a 31 team league, if you're top 35 in wins, you're at least a solid backup, if not creeping into 1b territory. I was surprised that WSH started this past year with Vanecek instead of Copley but I think that may have been due to cap space at the time, and not wanting to waive Siegenthaler, and then Vanecek just ran away with the opportunity.

I just don't see this team being able to move Oshie. I don't care if he's from WSH and frankly, I don't think other people care either.
It's a bad contract. almost 6 mil till he's 38.
Looking at his buyout, My guess is 1.5-2 mil retention on moving that contract in the future.

I think the right team to move him to is BOS. Decent team, closing window. When the window shuts who cares. They need help producing points.

Hagelin just doesn't bring enough to justify that cap hit on this Leafs team. They've got to be meticulous with every dollar and Hagelin at that price works against that.

Okay, but Schultz is still better than him right now in terms of points and plus/minus. Dumba is four years younger and played slightly bigger minutes this year because Schultz played behind John Carlson, but if you put Dumba behind Carlson, he's not going to average 20 minutes next year, and he'll still be making $6M.

So if there's a Dumba to WSH deal that's not about Kuznetsov, I think this might be the main idea. What would balance it?

That's the conventional wisdom, yes, but Tor has a bottom ten PK unit. When the Caps were in that situation, they fixed it by picking up Jensen and Hagelin. Now they're top ten in that stuff, but they didn't have enough center depth to hold onto their division lead, down the stretch, so I think Hagelin or Jensen for a depth center or an NHL-ready center could be win-win. I don't think WSH has cap space for Kerfoot, and I think Seattle will take Kerfoot, opening up more than enough cap space for Hagelin.

Adding Hagelin isn't going to fix their PK (which actually showed improvements in the later portion of the season and into the playoffs); it's a system thing. The Leafs aren't without good penalty killers up front, though it is true that some of them may not be back. It's not an issue that they should try to fix by investing $2.75m into one guy who doesn't bring much else. Even if that money may be there if Kerfoot gets taken, this isn't an effective way to spend it. Seattle just hired Hakstol (for some reason) who was in charge of the Leafs PK. If the Leafs fill the coaching vacancy with someone who knows what they're doing, they should be fine.

Kerfoot on Toronto's third line in 19-20 was on a 35 point pace.

Hagelin on Washington's third line in 19-20 was on a 35 point pace.

Now who's expensive? smile

I mean, I don't really see what Kerfoot's contract in comparison to Hagelin's or their numbers specificaly from 19-20 have to do with anything...

I think overall, Hagelin is more of a quick, defensive guy so the Cap have him just focus on breakouts and PK, while Kerfoot is a slightly better finisher so he moves up the line up more, but on a team that just needed a speedy, 40 point 2L, Hagelin could be a good solution. Kerfoot may still have top line potential? I don't think Hagelin has that unless a team is just looking for foot speed to keep up with a superstar. I sometimes see EDM fans pencil Hagelin in next to McDavid for that reason. But yeah, in WSH, he is not getting that kind of opportunity, especially with Ovechkin at 1L.

I wouldn't say Kerfoot has top line potential. He could maybe be a serviceable complimentary 3rd guy on a top line, but if you're counting on him to be a creator up there, you're in trouble.

No wild aren't trading dumba for any d at all . Like at all . This wouldn't be the main idea. points aren't everything. let's be real wild have zero needs: room for another d much less two. Dillon & schultz are nothing more than two worser players.

Dillon is 30 years old with worse stats, & at best would be 7th d on wild

Justin Schulz had 26 or 27 points not 50 like you mentioned

By the way, wild will just keep dumba

Haha. Worse stats? Schultz is coming off a 27 point season. His best is a 51 point season, on a team whose second best offensive defenseman had 34.

Dumba is coming off a 21 point season. His best is a 50 point season, where he played all year with Suter, who had 51.

Schultz has shown he can be a #1 offensive defenseman. Dumba has shown he can almost keep pace with Suter, as long as they play together.

Points aren't everything, but among offensive players, they're important. I don't know Minnesota's expansion draft picture well enough to know whether Schultz' age is enough to get SLE to pick someone else and let Minne keep a good top-four offensive defenseman. If not, hate on Dillon all you want but he's a great checker and a he can shut down teams' top lines.

Wild already has two of the best in Joel Eriksson Ek, Marcus foligno and top shutdown dman in nhl in jonas brodin

Wild will keep dumba
