My Thoughts

Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 30, 2021
Published: Jun. 30, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
First Signing:

Kyle Palmieri: Consistent 25 goal guy, Awesome possession numbers even being on a bad NJD he had solid stats, I see him playing anywhere is the leafs top 9. Main knock would be he's 30. Watching the Islanders play in this years playoffs made me want this guy, his series against tampa wasn't stellar but I liked his tenacity.

Contract was hard to figure out a value, I though signing him till he was 35 would give him some job security. Bad year or two at the end of his deal potential but the first 3 years should be great.

I went 4.2 x 5

Second Signing:

Mikael Granlund: A true centre, something the leafs desperately need in there bottom 6. If you wanted to argue that the leafs should be getting someone with more sandpaper at this position I wouldn't disagree but Granlund has had such good possession numbers over his career and a track record of being able to produce, I think that is worth more then say a Casey Cizikas or a different more gritty option. Granlund as your 3rd line centre would be depth that a lot of other teams can't match.

Hard to get a read on the market for Granlund as well, I felt 4x4 was in the ballpark

Third Signing:

Zach Bogosian: This guy was a rock for the leafs last year, I absolutely loved having him. He was worth every penny in my opinion, I'm bring him back for 1x3 if I can, give him some term to make him stay and if his ability falls of a cliff just bury the contract. No brainer in my opinion.

The leafs track record of signing Russian F/A's and giving them a long look to get acclimated to the NHL leads me to believe that Krill Semyonov will be playing the leafs 4C role to start the season.

Fourth Signing:

This one is a long shot. I think you offer Montour a 1 year 2mil prove it deal. In Anaheim Montour was a bonafide top 4 Dman. Since joining Buffalo he has seen his numbers plummet. Offer Montour the chance to play on a real team for once in his career and really try to sell him on that. It's a possibility,

Fifth Signing:

Backup goalie, I've stretched
the cap super thin here and didn't leave much wiggle room to sign a backup. Which could really bite the leafs in the ass here but I think its worth it to gamble on campbell.
I don't know much about Scott Wedgewood or what he's worth but I put him in as the placeholder here. 1yr @ 800k, not sure if thats even close.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. 2021 4th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Any pick above a 5th from anywhere will work, just looking at Nashville's roster it seems like a potential fit.
NSH
  1. Engvall, Pierre
Additional Details:
Engvall is a useful enough player but I just don't see a longer term fit for him here on the leafs. Aswell, I think his cap hit is to high for the leafs for what he can produce.
2.
LAK
  1. Dermott, Travis
Additional Details:
I think this trade fills a need for both teams. The Kings have a glut of forward prospects and looking through there depth chart adding a skilled LD that fits into there window makes a ton of sense. If a low round pick or B- prospect is needed to make the trade kosher add it.
3.
TOR
SEA
  1. Holl, Justin
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Im paying Seattle to take Holl. I believe that Kerfoot is a talented enough player that the leafs need to keep him. Where as Holl is sheltered so much by Muzzin people think he's better then he truly is. Upgrading the 4 D spot I believe is something that push's the leafs closerr to the cup.

Kings aren't going to trade one of their few top-6 wingers for a bottom pairing defender. Dermott does not jump either Anderson or Bjornfot in the lineup.

For all the Leafs fans in the back. Kings. DO NOT. Want. Dermott.

You are very much underrating what Dermott can provide. On a team rebuilding why not have a 24 year old with over 200 NHL games under his belt

Dermott is not really an improvement over Bjornfot and Andersson, the reason they are looking for a LD is because those two players are rookies and might be overplayed at this level in their development. Dermott just adds to a glut of bottom-4 LD with: Maata, MacDermid, Bjornfot, and Andersson. Furthermore, the Kings are trying to prioritize scoring, not sure losing Kempe for something they already have in abundance makes sense.

You are not considering what the King need: a player who can play top line minutes with Doughty, that's not Dermott.

Then on a team that has had historical issues with defense, up until this last year, why are all Leafs fans so keen on moving him?

No thanks.

Travis Dermott and Alex Kerfoot constitute the Seattle selection from Toronto in 95% of all Maple Leafs posts.

We're not trading one of our two top-6 LWs for expansion-draft fodder.

So LA trades for Dermott only to immediately lose him to Seattle? That makes sense....

I'd trade Matt Luff for Dermott so that the Kings can dangle Dermott to Seattle with the hope that they don't lose anyone else.

Aside from that, no thanks.

Its obvious you haven't seen Dermott play much. He instantly becomes the best LD on your team at this moment in time, Maatta is awful, Bjonfot WILL be the best right now he needs lots of growing, MacDermid is bad and Anderson is not good either. Today Dermott is better then all of your LD options.

When did I ever say this trade would happen today. OBVIOUSLY it wouldn't, it would happen after the expansion draft. That's just such a low level of thinking from your end. That thing on your shoulders is more then just a hat rack, use it once in awhile.

Not sure why that's contradictory. Since the justification for the Kings doing the trade is gone after the expansion draft, then there's even less reason for LA to consider it.

You obviously don't watch LA play. Anderson is the best LHD on the Kings and will likely wear a letter on his sweater for the Kings in the future. He received Calder consideration this season.

Feel free to read his player evaluation.

Anderson and Bjornfoot have been great as rookies they are equal if not better to Dermott and they haven't even reached their ceilings. The main issue, I think you missed from my earlier point. The Kings need a player to eat 22 minutes a night, Dermott can't eat that many minutes he hasn't in his career and would be overwhelmed. This isn't rocket science, Kings need a top-line LD, Dermott isn't one/
