This could be a good deal for both sides. VAN could open 1.5 mil with a buyout or they could just run out the contract and have the two years of cap space. It’s unlikely many would want to shoulder 4 more years of Schmidt at his cap hit and VAN should not retain.

i hear what everyone else is saying but schmidts contract is worse because its longer and he didnt play well at all. I actually think vancouver might add a bit as well and blackhawks

Schmidt is like 8 years younger and despite having one of the worst seasons of his career, he was still better than Keith. A bounce back year from Schmidt is far more likely than a bounce back year from Keith lol

agreed with hes younger but he doesnt have a good contract and in a flat cap no one wants to take that on. keith with less minutes could be really solid.

Schmidt wasn't that bad, he didn't produce offensively but high expectations were a bigger issue than performance. He was arguably their best dman despite underperforming.
