Kieth and other stuff

Created by: Miguelicious
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 2, 2021
Published: Jul. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
ONLY reason I don't have Kieth at 50% off is that I do think Strome brings in good value despite the Oilers giving up Bear and an early pick.

On Jones to SEA trade, might add a mid round pick to sweeten the pot if needed.

Built this roster based off of what was lacking in recent years, glaring holes exposed in the last playoffs: Speed, FO%, 2-way play, SIZE, Grit.. Bjugstad, Oleksiak, Bozak, Montour all bring an element or two of what I think we were missing, even Kieth does too.. dried-up-offense considered Kieth is still FAST and is a good 2-way D-man that could do wonders for Bouchard as a mentor.

I could see the hawks doing this.

Keith has more value than Neal and is signed for slightly cheaper. The retention on both Neal and Keith doesn't make sense as they both have the same amount of term on their contracts.

I'd want a 2nd round pick as Seattle to take Koskinen.

      two things
one, if keiths offence has dried up he's no longer a 2 way defender
two, he's also really really really bad defensively. He's currently a zero way defender

well, i meant his puck movement more than actually putting points to paper (which he barely does anymore the past few seasons)
as long as his positioning is still average, couple that with his speed and he's better than what we've been used to: dmen constantly out of position with no chance of chasing down players going the other way..

I mean for a 3rd pairing mentorship role? Oilers could do worse imho, expensive but could be worse..

The fact that Kieth is forcing CHI's hand really drops the value though. Under normal circumstances I would agree with you, but ever since the "pacific team, western canada" demands came out, most of the leverage went out the window

Benson and Jones individually have more value then a 2nd

Yikes. Two things still stand out to me though, was this perhaps a product of being overused in situations he just can't handle at this stage anymore?
ie used as a legit #1 against the opposition's best

and, how much was this a product of a declining CHI team overall?

Decent chance you could bump those numbers up when playing lesser minutes against crappier competition AND by having a better team around the guy.

He'll be too expensive for the role I see that now, so maybe more retention is needed to make this work.

yeah, i mean he might be salvagable as a bottom pairing sheltered kind of guy but you'd need to have him at like 1 mill for that to be worth the risk. Whoever trades him better hope they can send back even more bad salary for the risk
