Retention can't change. So it has to be the same for the rest of the contract

Title makes it sound like Jones is a throw in. This isn't close for Columbus to even consider. They need centers.

Leafs would probably want another asset to move their #4 d-man for a back up goalie, but it's not a bad base of a deal tbh.

Leafs may want to give Liljegren that spot to see what he is.

Letang isn’t going to put Columbus in his trade list, so just take him and Jones out of the trade and it’s considered, though with it being an in division trade jarmo probably asks for more.

He’s a very capable, proven, NHL back-up-1B goalie. Look at his stats. As good as Freddy’s. And DeSmith is on a good contract.

DeSmith 2.62 GAA and .916 SV% for his career
F.Anderson2.65 GAA and .915 SV% for his career.

I actually hope the Pens keep him and just run with Jarry and DeSmith again.

The organization seems set on signing a vet back-up/1B goalie though. I don’t think they are gonna get much better than DeSmith though. Especially for the price.

Raask, Ullmark, Driedger are better. Freddy and J.Bernier...But at what price?? And maybe Mrazek??DeSmith is a better option than every other FA goalie available, other than that, in my opinion.

He probably does, the difference is, I have to cap space in this ACGM to make it work. Even though most likely noones ACGM’s are ever gonna happen(like 99.99999999% of them).

You can atleast make it work under the cap. And have players getting around the salaries they will get.

I took out Letang and S.Jones.

I like Seth Jones. And he plays a ton of minutes. I wouldn’t trade a lot for 1 season of him though. He’s gonna want 7M-8M, maybe more this off season. I don’t think he’s worth that.

Either way, Laine is coming off a bad year, maybe they would want to recoup a known quantity in Kappy, and a 1st round pick. Plus Poulin.

Probably not enough, but I can’t see many teams offering much more than a Young NHL player, a top 100 prospect, close to NHL ready, and a 1st round pick.

top 100 prospect means ,assuming he's closer to 100 than 1, hewouldbe 3-4 best prospect on eachNHL team. he also failed to make WJ Canada .... not very impressive. CBJ would likely want a lot for Laine bc hes fairly young and has shown he can rack up points

Stick to your Caps ACGM’s.

WJ Canada team was loaded.

He’s 6’3, 215 pound power forward. And not like Nic Robertson or prospects that are a top 6 or bust.

He big enough, physical enough and good enough defensively to play on a legit NHL 3rd or 4th line and eventually move up. Like Hyman, Rust, Killorn, etc.

Playing in the Q, he had 77 points in 46 games in 2019-20 and 31 points in 21 games last season in a shortened season. Was the “C” of his team.

He’s a top 100 prospect on any list. A top 100 prospect is an “A” prospect.

My thoughts on the Laine trade. PIT does not have much prospect depth, let alone at C, so the fit is tough.

Poulin is a given, he’s the top PIT prospect and has above average NHL upside. It’s the rest of the package I struggle with. Kapanen is a decent middle six wing, but doesn’t really move the needle upside wise. Aline has 50-60 goal potential, and one of the 3 best releases in the world. He had a bad year... and... you don’t sell a 22 year old potential franchise player for pennies on the dollar.

So to make this work (not sure Carter or Malkin or JG would help CLB ‘rebuild’ and would create bigger holes in PIT roster) I think it’s an add 1st rounders to make it work. At least 2, and spread out a bit to maximize draft slot ‘22 and ‘24.

On the Laine contract. No way he signs for under $7M in ‘21-22. Why would he take a multi-year deal when he can sign his QO for $7.5 and look to rebound next season and get an $8+M deal for 5 to 7 years.

I don’t think Laine works to Pit for those 2 reasons, even though he would be great on 87’s wing.
