For a team that is looking like they are headed into another rebuild (it will never end) they will more than likely have enough cap to take on the buy out.

Taking rask, for instance, is taking cap. Taking parise thats going to cost 8 million a year in cap for the next 4 years, thats something different. I bet it costs those 3 firsts, PLUS, just to get somebody to buy parise out. That makes the rest of the package boldy (obviously nice), dumba who doesnt fit our timeline, and khovanov, which seems pretty light for eichel.

Honestly I am torn between paying the high price for Eichel or not. If it happens I’ll be happy. If it doesn’t and we still address the center issue, I will also be happy.

If you're torn on whether acquiring a player for that much is the right move, it's because it's not the right move.

Yea and no. I’m a fan not a GM. It addresses the biggest need this franchise has. But like everyone says the trade is more than likely going to hurt at least somewhat to acquire him.

Um, Parise doesn't cost $8M in cap for the next 4 years if he's bought out... that's ludicrous. It only gets that close in years 3 and 4. Even then that's an exaggeration.

It's spread out over 8 Years.

Year 1: $2.37M
Year 2: $6.37M
Years 3-4: $7.37M
Years 5-8: $833k

If I'm Guerin, I stay away from this deal anyway. I agree with @Caerii.

Yeah because we have 145k in cap space with no 13th forward or 7th defenseman, no money left to meaningfully upgrade the roster in any way in the next 2-3 years, you can't give anyone raises, you desperately need cheap talent and you traded Boldy and three firsts away so you don't have any.

Hockey is a team game. Winning the Cup is about having guys playing above their contracts. Most of your money is going to guys who can not realistically play above their contracts.

Eichel is a great player. If we could sign him as a UFA for 10M this summer without giving anything up for him, we still probably couldn't without losing a good piece or two to the salary cap. But trading for him compounds the issue because of what you're also giving up to acquire him. He's just not worth it, even though he is a true 1C.

That was a great response.

But with the little cap you can look for cheaper options than Foligno and Patrick (Patrick I really like and hope we make a move for) to use the cap elsewhere. But I get your point and agree. As looking at athletic posts and seeing what we are interested in it seems like Eichel is the only public target out there right now so I made a post.
