It's not that he wants out, he just wants to get paid. If he goes to FA and there's just a 200k difference between MTL's offer and let's say Minnesota, he'd probably stay.

I agree and think Danault is gone. He is a very good 2/3c but if he asks for 5+ mil they have to let him go. You can't spend that much long term on Weber, Price, Gallagher and him with the young guys about to get paid. If Gallagher didn't have his current contract then you could fit Danault in.

I listned to the Dangle podcast as well, Drouin for Kadri makes a ton of sense!

Easy decline by COL. They aren’t trading their 2C for a more expensive winger that is on LTIR.

Good post overall. I think Boston offers Hall that same contract though and he most probably stays over there.

Except it doesn’t. Drouin 1) makes more money than Kadri 2) is on LTIR and 3) plays wing. Those are 3 things COL doesn’t need.

Let’s put it this way, he wants an overpayment more than he wants to be a Hab. He didn’t have to take a hard line with the Habs, but he chose that route. Bergevin was disappointed that Danault never came back to the team’s offer with a concrete counter offer, and he thus finds himself in this position.

Nothing wrong with trying to max out his career contract, I must say. That is his prerogative. But he doesn’t want to be a Hab the same way, let’s say, Brendan Gallagher wants to be a Hab. That’s probably an unrealistically high standard to expect, but the point remains.

And yes Danault is valuable, but he’s certainly not more valuable than Tyler Toffoli, and arguably no more valuable than either Edmundson or Chiarot.

No idea why Pens ever consider that.
