Hoffman is a 4th line PP specialist. Paying him that much money in this day and age is a little nuts.

Larsson, should he leave EDM will get more than that.

Car has no use for a 2nd.

Bunting has no incentive to take a nothing deal with 3 years.

Cousins was traded for a 4th in 2020 -- without retention. He had comparable stats this past season, so I think that is likely his current value. With that kind of retention, I think you have to bump the pick to a 3rd or add an additional pick. And something that may affect this deal further, Poile has never retained in any trade.

When did Hoffman become a 4th liner? hes a 25 goal guy and even if he scores mostly on the powerplay the Leafs powerplay was attrocious and needs that.

Larssons contract I think is fair I think, he wont be getting more money than his previous contract.

Carolina is likely to move Foegele, he wants top 6 minutes and wont be getting that in Carolina, a 2nd round pick is very useful not sure why you would think otherwise?

Bunting has 26 NHL games as a 25 year old, hes not commanding much money

Can bump it up to a 3rd, being that it is only retention of 750k I thought it wouldnt make a big difference

Have you watched Hoffman play in the past 2 years?

Guess we'll see on UFA contracts, wont need to wait long to see who is right.

CAR is trying to contend now, picks do nothing for them. That trade doesn't make them better. Would be a good target though.

Bunting had a strong finish to last season. He might not command a lot of AAV, but there is 0 reason for him to take that term and not bet on himself.

As a Canes fan, I am actually cool with Foegele for a 2nd. If we move him we should have 4-5 million in cap to spend on a UFA upgrade and I think the winger options available this year are very good.

It's mainly to recoup assets for someone we are going to lose anyway. He is a good player but he fills a role that we can easily replace for cheaper or improve on with more cap space, imo

Canes are looking to move Foegele for picks or prospects or package him in a deal for top 6 upgrade. Would take this deal.

Vancouver doesnt have the cap space for an overpaid bottom 6er. We have enough of those with Beagle, Ferland, Roussel, Eriksson

If they are just looking to clear cap space then sure, but people are seriously underrating their defensive problems should Dougie walk so I am still going on the assumption that they would try to use him to strengthen the back end, where there are very few options in the open market that the extra capspace can be leveraged towards

Yes agree if Dougie leaves they need to make moves on the back end but with that extra cap space they can balance out the back end since there’s no replacing him if we’re being honest. They also have some other prospects that they can try to use to land a bigger name in a trade.

Yeah my main point being that if their primary concern is improving on the back end, then given the state of things its much more likely to come from a trade then UFA so the chances of a player moving out for just a pick goes down as its not the optimal route.

The caveat there is MOST of the player for draft picks deals are born exclusively from the ED.
