I guess they could move Girard to the right side but hes better on the left imo, so im not sure how good of an idea this is realistically. Theres also risk that he drops off significantly from last year

Everyones signing Suter to a 1 year deal worth around 1M. I dont think they realize how many teams will be in on him - I think his market value is around 4M unless he takes a pay cut to play in whichever city he prefers

I feel like Suter might have more experience playing on his off side, no? Definitely worth taking a run at him though, and I love the Rakell move

I havent followed Suter closely enough to know if hes ever played the right side for any significant amount of time, but if he has then thats a bonus. Ill switch him and Girard for now

I'm almost positive that he has, especially when he was playing 24+ min a night. He'd also be a great mentor for Byram, but I feel like he'll have suitors offering more term

i'd like to hope we could get him for cheaper, he is getting paid by minny for a while still so no like he's not making money and he might take a hit to go to a contender to try to win while he can

Good Dmen are good Dman, but Toews and Byram both can play the right side. What if you reunite Girard Toews and go.

Thats true. But I think there will be a lot of teams after him and 4M seems like fair value for him. If he really wants to go to a contender then maybe he would take less, depends on what hes looking for tbh

I think both Girard and Toews are better on the left (well Toews really id just like to keep him with Makar), for Byram I havent watched enough of him to make an opinion on left side vs right side but theres definitely lots of options with this group

seems like guys are pretty fluid playing whatever they need to. I think in that group Makar Suter and EJ are guys you keep on their natural playing sides and I bet you could move Toews Girard and Byram around on whatever side they need to, but I agree you do keep Toews Makar together.

I would say keep Toews and Makar together they work off of each other really well, and then run Suter with Girard, Suter is a big mobile d-man who can be physical when he has to and would compliment G really well.

Yep - if they want to get a little bigger and more physical, Joe should have been on the phone with Suter's camp as soon as the buyout was announced. I actually do like the idea of Makar playing with Suter - it wouldn't be quite as dynamic a pair as he and Toews but I think it would be more balanced. Also, I can't see Joe going near the FA market - it's always a bloodbath of overpayment.
