If the Sabres then went on to offer sheet Brady Tkachuk then I'd do it. If not, then I'd just take a package of young prospects from an LA, NYR, MIN etc. Or just keep Eichel cause I'm dubious moving him is the best option

Flames shouldn't give up anything to protect a player this year, it would sting emotionally to lose Gio but financially it could be the best thing for the Flames. Anyone else is not worth protecting. And I have all the time in the world for that Eichel deal

I mostly agree with you but no one knows if prospects turn out and most of the teams you listed have been said (Friedman) to be out. This at least gives you an A+ player, one of Calgary's top center prospects and good picks. Not too terrible - you could also flip Tkachuk for more assets if needed. Was my thinking anyways.

the 3rd was to protect Gio. Then when he expires next year, go after the best fit on D after another year of growth for the young guys. There are first pair options and depth options coming in 2022 / 2023

I certainly see what you mean but 6.75 in a flat cap off season is worth way more than a 3rd round pick in a bit of a crap shoot draft. I think that FA are going to get a little squeezed this year similar to what we saw last year with Vatanan and Hoffman. If Calgary is patient they can get one or two really good players to replace Gio's cap hit. Something like an Oleksiak and Armia.

I'm not sure I understand the mentality of some Calgary Flames fans. I'm asking the question with all sincerity, not to be a dick.

Why do you guys seem to constantly (a) undervalue Matthew Tkachuk, and (b) overvalue Jack Eichel?

Look at what you're offering here:
Tkachuk, LW RW age 23 - .7965 points per game and the kid plays HARD.
Zary, C age 19 - 1st round pick who has put up big points in junior.
1st round pick
2nd round pick.

Look what you're getting:
Eichel, C age 24 - .9467 points per game (equates into 12 more points per season than Tkachuk over 82 which Eichel struggles to play.)

Don't get me wrong, Eichel is a great player, but he's not a generational talent. If I were Calgary, I wouldn't offer more than Tkachuk and a prospect or a 1st. That's it....although Buffalo would likely turn this down.

Ok Buffalo fans, change my mind!!

Its the absolute maximum Calgary should pay if they get desperate. Should be able to acquire him without moving Tkachuk

As much as I am a flames fan... I highly doubt it. Just don't have the prospects that other teams do.

Sabre season ticket holder speaking.
I think Jack is amazing and is often under rated by many.
IMO only McDavid is better than he.
That is not over valuing him just understanding that ALL of the other great young guns have nearly equal players as team mates.
With that endorsement, Tkachuk and the 2021 first is nearly enough.
This is also a fair offer as the 2022 first will be much lower with Jack as the Flames #1 center.
Look what happened to Skinner when Krueger separated them.
Add Lucic to offset the cap for next couple of years, then I think it would a good deal for both.

What prospects are you referring to? Most of the major players have dropped out

Ive watched Eichel live play many times (leafs tickets cost way too much compared to Sabres tickets). He is a hell of a player and I'm not disagreeing with your value. However I am personally under the opinion that he will need surgery for the herniated disk and Buffalo intends to move him before a surgery. I also think the concept of Calgary acquiring Eichel would be to play alongside Tkachuk and instead mortgage the future

I think we are in agreement then.
As I said Jack will make nearly anyone look like a superstar.
I would hate to trade away Jack and the only other solution is to trade away the owners at this point.
But I think there is a toxic atmosphere in Buffalo as many players greatly underperform when they are traded to Buffalo.
Really can you imagine a team with Eichel, Hall, Reinhart, Skinner, Olofsson up front and Dahlin and Ristolainen on the back end not being in a playoff hunt?
How about a team with O'Reilly, Kane, Eichel and Reinhart finishing in last place over all.
While many of the moves Botterill made also failed to produce a winner, he had the correct perspective, grow the talent in a winning atmosphere in the minors then bring them up when they are ready.
The three years before Botterill came to Buffalo and the year he left the Buffalo farm club was in last or near last, only when he was the GM did the Amerks make the playoffs every year.
I have no faith in Kevyn Adams but it is time to start over and build through the draft and farm system, not rush it as Murray did.

Can you put together package that Buffalo may accept for Eichel that most Flames fans will also accept.
Keep in mind Buffalo has solid Defensemen, Center, GK and LW prospects.
The black hole is at RW. If Reinhart is also traded, only Tage Thompson is left.
Tkachuk would work as Skinner could move over to RW.

BTW while I am a Sabre's fan I root for the Leaf's in the playoffs.
I think they cannot win a game seven as their GK is never as good as their opposition.

Alright here would be my offer:
3-way trade (since i dont see Monahan waiving to Buffalo specifically but I do to Ottawa)

OTT gets
- Monahan
CGY gets
- Eichel
BUF gets
- Greig
- L. Brown
- 2022 2nd (Tampa)

- 2021 1st (#12)
- Zary
- Heineman/Ruzicka/Francis
- 2022 2nd (Florida)
