Have to figure you'll trade away samsonov or vitek since you can't protect them both. Probably get a few 2nds for Vitek

no chance on that TBL trade. Cernak isn't a realistic trade option, and especially not for Daniel Sprong

Whoooooof what a terrible trade for the Caps. STL take that deal and run so fast lol Caps probably wouldn't even do Kuz for Tarasenko, let alone add Mantha as well. Big time lose for the Caps.

Also Orlov gets a 1st+.

So Tampa has no need for a cheap goal scoring forward and are in an ideal salary cap situation. Got it. Tampa would take this deal and sign Suter for 1.5 mill

Tarasenko is a 5 time 30 goal scorer and averaged 36 over those 5 years. He's been severely limited the last 2 years but when healthy hes way better than Kuznetsov. Mantha scored 4 goals in 4 games after the trade but that was it. No more goals including the playoffs.

You can't just brush off the 3 major should surgeries from Tarasenko. Plus he isn't young anymore. I like him, but I'm not sending top line center away for him unless they are certain he can return to form.

As for Mantha, he was the Capitals best forward by far once he joined the team. He was creating chances like a madman. Just because he was snake bitten for like 10 games doesn't mean you trade him away for nothing. Dude is hitting 70 points next season.

Yes, the value out of context is great, but the Blues will (or at least should) want no part of Kuzy and his contract.

If they're getting Tarasenko and Dunn I'd say do Kuzy + Orlov/Schultz/Dillon, also Orlov is not even worth a first, least clutch player on the team that's running a bad contract

Cheap replacement forwards are something the Lightning have an abundance of. Mattheiu Joseph and Alex Barre-Boulet both step into full time roster spots next year. Cernak is a great value contract and trading him away is of little cap benefit to the Bolts. You trade Orlov for a 2nd and a 3rd but Cernak is only worth a guy you traded Christian Djoos for? Come on man.

And if Suter is a viable replacement for Cernak you should just sign Suter and keep your cheap goal scoring forward.

yea dude I don't get it, Joseph and Sprong had very similar seasons and I can't imagine anyone trading a top 4 dman for Mathieu Joseph

Orlov is arguably the best defensemen on the team. I'd trade Carlson before I traded him. He has a fantastic contract.

We don't need Dunn or Tarasenko. I like Dunn but we have a milliong LHD already. If Caps feel like they absolutely HAVE to trade Kuz and Tara is their best offer, sure I'd take it. Otherwise I'm keepinghim.

Here are some stats: 22 GP, 3G, 0A, 3P, -4. That's how Orlov started the year, for someone who's supposed to be an offensive defenseman, that inconsistency is unacceptable. If there's any team willing to take that 5.1 mil I'd take it in a heartbeat

Wait what? lol Orlov is NOT an offensive defensemen. If you're looking for him to put up numbers than yeah I can see why you're upset but he was NEVER EVER supposed to be an offensive defensemen. He's a two-way defensemen with great underlying stats that drives play. He wasn't drafted as an offensive defensemen and was never supposed to be.

Even if he's a two-way defender how can that justify zero assists through 22 games? That -4 in the same stretch also doesn't help his defensive game

Plus/Minus is the stupidest stat in the game. It's uselss. You could look at every defensemen's career and pick out a 22 game stretch where there wasn't much production. If you are going to base him on his first 22 games, why not base anything on his last 29 games where he put up 20 points? So weird you are focusing on just 22 games of his 567 game career.

The reason you focus on streaks is because they show inconsistency, anything between 7-15 games is a slump. 20+ is inconsistency, inconsistency is not worth 5.1 million against the cap for the next two seasons

Again, EVERY player EVER has slumps. You don't trade one of the best two way defensemen in the game because in a weird shortened season he put up 3 points in the first 20 games.

Like I said, anything over 20 games is NOT a slump, it's just plain bad. Here's the problem with inconsistent players, even though stats might balance out by the end of the year what that doesn't show you is that when they're at their worst, they are a clear liability to the team and cost them wins. You cannot look at how Orlov played in January and February this year and be able to justify calling him one of the best two-way defensemen in the game. It's been like this since 2018-19, Orlov balances out his stats by year end but during some 20 game chunk at the start or mid-season he's nothing on offense, a defensive liability, and a player that costs the team wins. I'm not for keeping around a guy who will decrease your odds of winning in about 25% of games, other teams know that too and they won't give up a first round pick and more to acquire him. I rest my case.

The issue is you're still looking at offensive stats. He is not an offensive defensemen. He isn't paid to be Carlson or Green. He's paid to be a great 2 way player and that is exactly what he is.

Orlov increases our chances to win every night. He's our best all around defensemen. I will never understand how some people think Orlov is bad. It's absolutely mind boggling to me. His analytics have always been top of the game.

First of all the caps are trying to use him as an offensive defenseman which hurts his value but secondly what does two-way mean? Defense AND offense, you need to at least recognize he's not strong enough offensively to be paid like a great two-way player because he simply isn't. Analytics aren't everything, sometimes the classic eye test is all you need

When have they ever used him as an offensive defensemen? He was part of the high end shut down pair of Orlov-Nisky. He was put with Carlson to play defense for him. He gets about zero PP time. He was never ever expected to put up points. Ever.

2 way is offense and defense. Doesn't mean you need to be an elite offensive weapon. He's a guy you can put out there to shut down opponets and put up 30+ points a season. He does all of that. He's great. Numbers aren't everything and the eye test sometimes help. In this case, it helps. By the eyes he's fantastic.

Yes two-way doesn't require fantastic offense, but it needs more than 3 points over 22 games. Also, Orlov gets lots of pp time, after Carlson it's always either him or Schultz depending on who's more fresh, I'm sorry that you disagree but as far as I can tell Orlov is an overpaid player that could benefit from a trade. His value is 100% less than a first round pick plus to most gms though

WHY ARE YOU SO FOCUED ON 22 GAMES! lol He's played 567 NHL games. The last 6 seasons he's averaged 31 points per season. Putting up 31 points while playing against the other teams top players is very good.

Getting 2nd unit PP time on the Caps is essentially getting zero time. He averaged 0:44 seconds per game this season. That's not even real playing time, that's just getting the last 15 seconds of a PP. That's nothing. Schultz got 1:37 a game. Carlson 3:15.

Orlov is a great player on a great contract. Caps aren't trading him and if they were they'd get a 1st.
