Why would the Bruins trade Lauzon and then lose Clifton or Ritchie in the draft on top of him. Not to mention they'd have to protect Mac and thus expose someone else. This make zero sense. The only trades you would make are of someone you planned on protecting to open a slot for someone to move into protection or protected player for protected player. Trading an unprotected player for anything is stupid as you lose them and Seattle still gets to take someone else.

So Boston trades Lauzon for a fringe 4th liner and a pair of picks that have a 27% and 15% chance of playing at least 100 NHL games. Then they still have to lose an player in expansion (Ritchie, Zboril, Clifton) because SEA has to take someone. How does this deal make any sense for Boston? The trade itself is bad for Boston even without talking about expansion draft.

Easy Rangers decline. This draft is weak af, No point in trading up. Schneider carries about as much value as a prospect as most of the guys available at 9.

Which means the rest of the trade amounts to Schmidt + Lind for a 1st ....which is pretty funny tbh.

This draft isn't that weak. There's a drop off after 12. Kent Johnson, Mason McTavish, Fabian Lysell>Braden Schenider

Schmitt’s contract is a negative asset. Even beyond that, none of those guys are a 1st round pick better than Schneider, if they’re worth more than him at all

This kind of logic has been running rampant around here lately. Ohhh the bruins will give up lauzon for nothing because then they’ll lose him in the expansion draft. Sure. But then they’re going to lose another guy.

“Trade him so you don’t lose him” is terrible logic. Lost him anyway, gained nothing of value, and Seattle now takes Zboril or Clifton. Making a dumb trade costs them 1/3 of their defense. Now if you want to trade Miller for Debrusk and Lauzon, that would at least make sense. Trade Lauzon for a draft exempt NHL ready d man to take his place or a quality pick…maybe. This…no. It’s bad asset mangement.

Schmidt isn't a negative asset, but he has little to no value. Vancouver won't pay to dump him
I agree that none of them are a 1st round pick better than Schneider, but they're definitely worth more. McTavish is similar to Rossi in terms of value, better defensively but worse offensively. Johnson should be around there too. Johnson had a better season this year than Alex Turcotte and has huge offensive upside.

Vancouver won’t pay an asset to trade him, but his contract drags down any team’s cap situation. He’s not nearly productive enough to make what he makes.

At least one of Johnson and McTavish will be gone before 9. Lysell doesn’t carry much weight (TopDown has him at a 2.16% chance of being an NHLer), I’d take Schneider over him all day long.

Even beyond all that, the trade just makes no sense for the Rangers. Schneider is the big bodied gritty player that the front office seems to want and no one drafted this year would have an NHL impact which is what they’re in immediate need of

I wouldn't say the draft is weak. I would say that no one knows what the draft will produce. This could be a year a lot of teams find diamonds in the later rounds because of the lack of scouting.

Well COL traded Graves (a MUCH better Dman than Lauzon) for the 61st overall pick, plus a fringe bottom 6 forward. So I think the deal proposed is fair value for Lauzon, i.e. the 72nd overall + 139th overall + a bottom 6 player.

Haha two picks and an NHL player are nothing. Good one! I think you are overvaluing Lauzon. Pretty sure the devils 2nd round pick isn’t 61st overall. Did they go on a playoff run that i missed?

Not losing anyone else in the expansion draft is worth more to boston than two nothing picks and a nothing player.

61st is the Devils pick they got from the Islanders in exchange for Andy Greene

1. Power
2. Beniers
3. Eklund
4. Hughes
5. Clarke
6. Edvinsson
7. Wallstedt
8. Guenther
9. McTavish or Johnson

Rangers would need Johnson or McTavish over Schenider based on their abundance of RHD and lack of center depth
