I agree. went a bit high to see if it could still work with an overpay, id also rather be criticized for that than low balling

Who cares if you’re criticized? I just don’t think hertl is all that good.

Curious why and how much you think he’s worth on the open market.

Idk I think Hertl would be a nice move. 27 year old 2C that put up 43 points on a bad sharks team last year.

It's clear you'll never have a job scouting talent. Jeez. Your ideal team is:

Actually it’s not. I just think he’s a good defensemen and hertl doesn’t belong in the top six of a cup contender. Don’t like it? Move along.

Career .64 PPG. 52 point 82 game pace. Meh. That’s okay. He had one awesome year. This last season was pretty darn good too. But he has a ton of years where at least offensively, he’s performed like a 3C. I wouldn’t overpay in trade, and then overpay in a UFA contract gambling he’ll be a high end 2C

I think he’ll get overpaid, but i think a 5x5.5 deal is what he’s worth.

Just curious, but do you also think that Coyle is overpaid?

      Yes

      Fair enough.

Buuuuuut I'm going to assume you thought that Krejci was overpaid too and didn't belong in the top six of a cup contender, considering that Hertl's numbers from age 25 to 27 were as good or better than Krejci's were at that age and that Hertl's been putting up those numbers on an absolute **** team for the last two seasons as opposed to, well, a team that went to the cup finals/2nd round. (I didn't go back further than that because Hertl wasn't moved to center until he was 25 and comparing wingers to centers is non-productive)

I'll absolutely grant you that $7,850,000 is a pretty significant overpayment for Hertl - I think he's due more of a 7x7 deal - but to maintain that he's not a top six center is just, like, idiotic.

Think you might want to circle back and compare krejci to hertl again. Through Krejci’s first 8 years in the league (the stage that hertl is at now), Krejci had five 50+ point seasons (four of them being 60+), including the lockout year, a year with a major injury, and krejci’s half season+ rookie year. Hertl has one. Krejci had lead the NHL in post season scoring twice. Clearly hertl hasn’t once. And yes, krejci was slightly overpaid. Very slightly.

Oh, for sure Krejci's early numbers were better than Hertl's, but some players bloom later than others. I think you'll find that if you compare their numbers starting when Hertl was moved from the wing that they're shockingly similar - he's put up a .96, .75, and .86 ppg in the last three years since he started centering the second line, and again: that's on a basement level team. I have no idea how he's going to shake out over the next however many years, but right now he's playing at a very high standard and I think his numbers would be significantly better if he were on a team with competent wingers. To deny that he's a 2C is just ludicrous and makes you look extremely foolish.

A 2nd rounder to bury Moore’s contract and buy him out next year?

      Sure, why not.

Kudos to you Bunny. I did not have the patience for Charlie McAvoy's insolence.

That would be an extremely team friendly deal. Over the past three years he’s paced ~70 while having a plus FO and possession game. I’d be curious to hear your comp for that deal.
