Eichel to Nashville

Description
I think this is the only way BUF can both get value in return for Eichel as well as move off of the awful Skinner contract. BUF looks at Duchene and Johansen as reclamation projects and can eat half of their contracts to move on from them in the future. Let me know who needs to add and what salary retentions may need change. Subsequent moves? Or is this just not a good idea at all?

I’ll say that if you’re retaining 50% of their salary, Duchene and Johansen certainly aren’t cap dumps.

Nashville just traded Arvidsson and Ellis, I can't imagine they land Eichel after losing a top 4 D and top 6 F. I think they're on their way to rebuild status as well and an Eichel trade is holding up the rest of the league.

Do you think you could get a 3rd for each? I'm not sure if eating this much money hurts them in the later years more than it helps them reach the floor now. If you could get a second for each I'd do it as soon as possible if I'm BUF. I think turning the 19 million of Eichel and Skinner into two decent (not as grossly overpaid as Skinner) although still overpaid centers, a young d man, two firsts and a prospect and at the end of the day probably 12 million in dead money is BUF best way to move forward.

I know you're trying to maximize return but if you are taking Duchene and Johansen from Nashville then we don't need any retention on Skinner. If Fabbro was part of the deal, it'd be a cap neutral move. Nashville wouldn't ask for retention as it would cost them more prime pieces.

Also, Nashville is rebuilding and trading 4 1st (Tomasino, Fabbro, 2022, 2023) isn't a smart way for us to do it. Would love Eichel but mortgaging the future to get him when we aren't going to win in the present is a bad plan.

You could definitely get at least a 2nd for each of them, and maybe more if you hold onto them for a bit and they bounce back.
