The only scenario I see the Blues trading Parayko is if all three of the following criteria are met:

- it's the trade deadline
- the Blues are clearly out of the playoff race
- Parayko has indicated that he wants to explore the market

All AGM's based on anything other than this is just a random fan dreaming, IMO. Including this one.

All Jones informed Columbus was that he wouldn't re-sign in Columbus and would go to market. Then as part of negotiations Jones agreed to his contract with Chicago. Hence why he was acquired on July 23 and a contract was agreed upon on July 23. Those aren't the types of contracts that you trade for a guy and work out in minutes, they're negotiated before the deal and signed as part of the deal.

It just wasn't allowed to be announced or official until the first day of free agency (which was July 28) as per NHL rules that don't allow an extension to be signed before the player has 1 year remaining on his deal.

Rental defensemen are not worth a kings ransom. 1 Year plus an extension is worth much more.

Yeah seriously! Was certain he was headed for free agency to bring up his contract, especially after seeing all those high priced dman sign 8-9M+. Although I will say, I still think he would have got 8M in free agency. He chose to get this done so I commend him and the Blues for it.

Parayko signed for probably market value - can't see him ever being worth over $7M per season. Yes he's great defensively, won't argue that. But he doesn't have the offensive numbers to warrant anything more than what he got paid. Defensive defenceman tend to slow down sooner than offensive guys because of the physical style they play, so paying him anything more is risky in the long term.

All the "comparables" that have been thrown around weren't comparables at all because all of Jones, Nurse, Werenski, etc. have offence to their play styles and produce points - at the end of the day whether people admit it or not, production gets more than prevention.

Hmm I dunno, I think stats have less to do with it. The market is barren for top quality RHD. The comps I gave were more to give indication that the price of dmen has raised recently. 9M Hamilton means the guys making 6M are now guaranteed 7M now. Regardless, look at Spurgeon, he got 7.5M two years ago and I think that is more than fair for Parayko.

Either way you look at it, if a guy like me and others feel he was worth more, chances are there were GM's ready to give him more. (Possibly more than he deserves - Not saying Parayko @ 8.5M is worth it)
