I think it's fair. I brought this up in another thread, but it's hard to gauge what that return will look like. It's hard to know what SJ wants as they still fancy themselves as a team looking to make a playoff push, so I don't know if they'd want futures or someone who can step in, but again, I think value-wise it's fair.

Its tough to find trades to base value off of now. A lot of recent trades for rental forwards have very large differences in trade returns

Hall - 2nd + Bjork
Duchene - 1st + cond. 1st + Abramov + Davidsson
Buchnevich (1 year of team control when traded) - 2nd + Blais
Reinhart (1 year of team control when traded) - 1st + Levi

Yeah, I used Hall as a comparison before. I think Hertl is a bigger impact player than Hall so I'd expect a return that's a step up, so something similar to Reinhart. Part of it will come down to what SJ really wants to accomplish.

If this is what it would take to get Hertle then the Habs would have done it instead of Dvorak.

Maybe but SJ is also not looking to deal anyone right now. If it gets to February and they are out of the playoff picture, they'll be more willing to talk.

Every SJ reporter has also made it clear that Hertl is not on the market right now.
