Description
Random idea that popped into my head while listening to the latest 31 thought podcast.
Would this be an even trade? or would TOR / OTT have to add more? Personally, I feel TOR would have to add more, but I just wanted a template of what the core deal would look like.
TOR gets the top Dman to a superb contract in case rielly leaves/gets traded next year, and gets Brady to fill the hole that Hyman left.
TOR also signs Brady to a 1 x $2.4 mill due to cap space and such, and will give him a massive pay raise once Kessel's contract comes off the books next year. (2.4 to 4 mill will be the one year, and he'll probably make 5.5-6 with the multi-year)

Ottawa gets their superstar they are looking for and can market, along with potential Top 4/2 dman in Sandin, and a late 1st rounder, in a draft that i believe is supposed to be solid next year (not 100% sure, just remember Marek mentioning something about that).

Tkachuk's gonna want close to 7-8 this year, and then even if he accepts the 2.4, he's gonna want even more (8-9 maybe)

What would TOR have to add for it to balance out?

In this scenario you don't have enough cap space to pay Tkachuk(maybe every scenario TBH) He would want closer to his brother's AAV on a bridge deal

Doesnt really work for either side, Ottawa loses two players that are the heart and soul of their team, pissing off the last shred of goodwill that the sens have, and the leafs lose out on value. Sandin is obviously not as good as Chabot, but in a couple of years if Sandin becomes the excellent top 4 d he can be than the difference between Marner and Tkachuk is too great for the difference between Chabot and Sandin to make it up. The first makes it even worst for toronto.

I'm an Oilers fan and if I'm the Sens I'm blocking Dubas number if he tries this trade. And Tkachuk is not signing for pennies lol. You'll lose him to an offersheet so quickly

Well if all you're offering this year is 2.5 million Tkachuk's agent will get the word out and some team will only throw 5 - 7 million at him, which Toronto can't afford

Im also taking into consideration that Melnyk owns the team and dont know if hell dish out the money for Brady. Don't forget, most of marners contract has already been paid for in actual dollars. its just the Cap hit thats high.

Yes but if Tkachuk and his agent want to play hardball you're so screwed. Even on a 1 or two year bridge he's getting 5

The one year contract would be around 2.5 - 4 mill. I think its acceptable for the points he had and the fact that hell be getting alot of points playing with Matthews so hes money will increase.
The multi year I thought that hed be making close to/ more then Hyman money. 8 x 6.5 for example. Higher term, lower AAV

I think TOR could fit 4.5 under the cap, if they bury some contracts, so its not completely far off. Plus it gives him every chance to make him more on the next contract playing with Matthews no?

Yea no. Let's not give a local rival and in the same divison a top 5 winger, a top D prospect and a 1st for a *Decent* winger and a Top dman. The 1at for one would have to be on Ottawa side coming to the leafs ATLEAST

Edit: didn't even see the contract lol.

No sir lol, Im a leafs fan and I can tell you, Leafs would have to give more. Brady is a rare power forward that everyone in the league is dying to have, and Chabots contract alone is perfect for the leafs. Marner is a superstar and a top 5-10 player in this league yes, but also a winger who plays with a superstar centre.

I hate the "oh he plays with a superstar centre" yea most top wingers do because their top line. Our defense isn't the problem As much as I like Chabot. Marner > Tkachuk simple. I take the skill over Tkachuk who offensively isn't better than Nylander.
