Description
I know the leafs refused to trade mikheyev but what happens if he refuses to play, and they are forced to trade him. I think he would be a great fit on nyi.
Mikheyev is fast and good defensively so he will be able to fit in seamlessly on JGs wing. He also kills penalties which is a plus. The offensive upside is there and i see this as a low risk high reward type of move. At worst you get a defensive bottom 6 forward who kills penalties and has nhl level puck skills (unlike leo komarov). At best we get a real solid 3rd liner whos good on both ends of the ice and can really contribute. I also think he will really work well in the trotz system. But this makes too much sense, so i know it wont happen 😢😢

Theres no taxi squad in 2021-22, so while that doesn;t affect your cap numbers, any of those guys getting called up or demoted probably get claimed

Mikheyev would be no happier on the Isles. The best case is Parise gets scratched, then he is upset and wants to leave. But Lou did not sell him on coming here to not play, so then Mikheyev is a scratch and wants another trade.

I disagree. The issue wasnt top 6 or not. He wanted more ice time. That he probably will get moving from toronto to nyi. Also nobody is going to give him top 6 minutes, but i think he will do really well on nyi as he fits the line and the system perfectly. And i think he might realize that as well. That will get him more $ which is the end goal of this whole thing.
As for parise, idk y everyones blowing their heads off that a 37yo who isnt very good anymore is going to be scratched. Isnt that everyones big issue with LL and BT. That they wont play younger guys and have this crazy affinity towards ancient players.

Agreed, but hes cheap both in acquisition cost and in terms of cap.

Im aware. I always try to put the waiver eligible guys that i send down on the taxi squad to show who can be claimed. If anyone wants to claim a cap dump from us sure. Or ross johnston who isnt an nhl caliber player. Maybe we trade panik before the season so we can get a pick back but the other 3 at worst we lose someone who didnt help us and didnt hurt us.

F*ck parise. The guy is 37yo and was not good at all last year. When someones 37 and isnt good maybe theyve just gotten old. Its not like palmieri where a bounceback is very likely cpnsidering hes 30, not 37. Also id rather play the younger guy who has a bunch of years left than have 1 year of parise.

As for dermott, hes not great but hes cheap to get, and he doesnt have a massive cap hit.

I think Soucy might be a good target for relatively cheaper

I would MUCH rather have Mikheyev than Parise, but there is no chance of getting Mikeyhev now. Lou is not going to bring in another forward to push Parise out of the lineup, and Isles need to save their cap for a potential LD.

It just seems like it makes so much sense. Just like they knew JGP would fit in perfectly at 3C and thats why they got him, the same thing with mikheyev imo. He will fit in so perfectly in the one remaining weak spot in the F group. I get we already "got parise" but hes not good plus when you see a better option that makes sense and is a great bargain (like this imo) you have to take it.
As for D, there arent any good options really anymore. Either we overpay for a good LD2 or we pay for a 3rd pair dman, and im not really interested in either. At this point it might be worth it to play hickey/aho/salo and see what we have. And if we need to make a TDL deal so be it. I just think it makes the most sense.
