I'm of two minds on the Monahan deal: its really three roster attempt guys (just okay youngish guys) which isnt much, but 2 2nds is nice, maybe not enough a 2C given that theres few on the market.

However, I think you undervalue Soucy in the current market where dmen are worth twice that (a low 2nd)

As far as the lineup: Oleksiak as 7th dman? (I think you'll see the loser of the Lauzon/Fleury fight for 3rd pair get dealt)

I respectfully disagree here. Soucy IMO is overpaid by one round. Two seasons under his belt at 27 years old, he's a late bloomer, so it's really hard to tell what his ceiling is or how consistent he will be. He's barely played over one full NHL season. I think a 3rd is appropriate for him.

I do think the CGY trade is weak though. Personally I don't think much of Monahan anymore. He started to slide prior to his injury, but I think he's worth more than that.

Blackwell had a similar pts/g as Monahan last year

He's like 1/5 of the return all told

So.

😐

You're allowed to think about a deal and do a bit of research before you post btw there's no time requirement or anything on this website

Seems unlikely cgy accept sure

But it saves them lots of money and mostly replaces his production and honestly might be the best offer they get for him all told so... why dismiss it?

The potential of cholowski and (especially) lind shouldn't be ignored; they could well be very different assets in a few years when they hit prime

Their potential is key to the deal for sure

Many players peak after 24

I'd see the cgy deal as really nice for them especially if it came at the beginning of free agency so they could make use of the savings but still ok at this point

It's good value for where Monahan is currently at but it doesn't make sense for calgary at this time. Calgary's roster is pretty full and we have a few forward and defense prospects also competiting for spots (gawdin, ruzizka, kylington and mackey).

Calgary should keep Monahan unless they are bringing in a better center.

I'm also cautiously optimistic that Monahan will have a bounce back year after his surgery.

Are we all just gonna forget Monahan scored 70 points in 2019 and has over 200 career goals already
