NO JUST NO x 1 million times

I am not sure why so many people insist on proposing OFFER SHEETS when in the reality we might not see that again for years...

Teams don't want to play with that, it's placing a really big target on your back and after what happened this summer with Montreal/Carolina, I think it's clear now

Actually, only Montreal's GM Marc Bergevin made some offer sheets in recent history (Point/Aho). The last one before that was the Flames in 2013 to Ryan O'Reilly

It's almost like an unwritten rule. Teams simply don't want to do it so nobody does it to them

Proposing that from Ottawa of all teams is even less likely and bordering SUICIDAL. Ottawa has been struggling financially for more than a decade (as the salary cap went up) and its current owner cares more about the bottom line than anything. If anyone thinks there's a chance they start playing with offer sheets, I have a beach house to sell you in Alaska

EDIT : Also NO to the trade, if you have to trade Brown, trade him out of the eastern conference and division for a better reclamation project than Rasmus Asplund. Might as well keep Tierney over Eakin too.

Ottawa declines the Buffalo trade because Eakin has absolutely no value to us.

Because?

Wait, is it because they are NOT paying Kotkaniemi 6.1 M$ this season? He will extend with Carolina after this season to a contract more in accordance to his real value...

In the meantime, Montreal traded for Dvorak to replace Kotkaniemi and paid even more than they received from the compensation

Dvorak isn't a bad player at all, but I don't know, I'd prefer to hedge my bets on my recent 3rd OA pick from just 3 years ago...

Then they should have signed him to a contract. They had an entire year to.

Are you aware he asked for a trade and they had been negotiating a trade before the offer sheet with carolina?

Dvorak is much better than kotkanmiemi

As bad as Tierney was last season, Eakin was worse, and is worse, and Asplund is not a good prospect, 3rd line at best. Browns value is down, but not that far. This is a bad trade.

The offer sheet is not a good idea either, just trade for him.

Montreal let their ego get in the way of their thinking. They’ll spin this, but it was a bad decision not to match.

Edit : Of course, but they didn't expect that offer sheet, they thought "they had time to sign him" They didn't expect retaliation. That's why it's dangerous to play with fire. Retaliation exists.

By the way Kotkaniemi has played his 18, 19 and 20 years old seasons so far

This is going to be his 21 y/o season, don't be surprised if he starts becoming better. And for having been in Montreal for 30+ years I know this market very well. It's pretty hard to play here, particularly for a foreign teenager

Ottawa has too much youth and upcoming RFAs I’m not sure they should be starting an offersheet war.
