Response to Sakic

Created by: Jacketsman61

Description
So Sakic had the starting price for Duchene as Wennberg and Murray. My response is for Sakic to stick it where the sun don't shine. So since he unreasonable, we will stick to our inside options. We are likely to see the new wave of prospects to land in Cleveland. And this will be a tsunami. Likelihood we will see the arrival of Stenlund, Kolesar, Abramov, Carlsson, Merzlikens, Thurkauf, and Sherwood. Three of these players are centers (Stenlund, Thurkauf, and Sherwood).

You're right in saying that asking price for Duchene is ridiculous, if that's actually what Sakic was asking for. And I like the idea of sending a pick with a lesser player to Vegas as a way to get them to not select some of the team's better ones, but I think it will take a much higher pick to make it worthwhile for them. Think about it; if you believed Korpisalo might develop into a starter, would you rather have him or Calvert and a 7th round pick?

I like the Wennberg contract, as well as pondering lineup possibilities in Cleveland. I don't think it's necessary for the Jackets to exchange players and picks to protect anyone extra. A good player will be lost regardless, whether it's Korpisalo, Anderson, Karlsson or Johnson, it doesn't matter. Jarmo will not spend extra picks to save one over the other. Only thing I could see is sending a pick in order for them to take Clarkson, otherwise it's not going to happen.

Well, if your Vegas you have to balance your draft with players who can play right now and those maybe in a year or two. A player like Calvert actually makes more sense due to the fact you can only carry 2 goaltenders at a time anyway. And because of the value that Calvert brings to the team a late pick would suffice. Remember they are going to need to load up on draft picks to start to stock the prospect pipeline.

I assume that Vegas would be able to take a better player than Calvert in expansion.. Doubt they would agree to take Calvert for a 7th rounder. They'd be better off taking their chance with one of the CLB guys left unprotected.

I think everyone needs to keep in perspective Wennberg is still an RFA and the team holds all the power. This will be a very similar deal to what Joey got, somewhere in the 3 yr, 4M per range.

That seems about right. It's a little more than Atkinson got, and Wennberg isn't scoring goals like Cam was prior to his current contract.
