Anaheim is going to be BAAAAAAAAAAAD, why trade an asset for a player to bring down your draft slot 2-3 spots?

Colorado may have interest in Rakell, but that's too high of an asking price (imo).

I can see both sides of it here...I'm assuming the goal would be to buy low, and then sell high if you can get him back to a reasonable level...this trade is essentially a 2nd+conditional 3rd (That becomes a 2nd if blah blah blah), so the idea is likely if you can flip him at some point, even with some retention, the assets coming back would be greater than Steel+3rd.

At the same time, you're 100% right-If he does well, you're not getting a top 6ish pick anymore, which isn't ideal. If he does poorly, you've moved assets that you can't get back. It's a dangerous game to play for a team that has pretty much stood still with it's pending UFA's in Hampus, Rakell and Manson. It'd be fun to add an offensively gifted winger to the Comtois-Zegras line, but it's probably a dangerous move right now. I'd rather do something like Rakell for Tarasenko, instead of gambling with young guys/picks.

I think the ask is going to end up being a 1st+B prospect (or late 2nd/3rd?). Will they get that? I suppose it'll depend on how well he's playing. That contract (especially retained...) is a good fit for a lot of teams that are going to need some reinforcements.

I'd be putting him with Comtois-Zegras to start the season to see if they can boost his offensive numbers a bit, which should increase the return.

I would do the same.

In terms of my comment, I don't think it's wildly off or anything. However, the condition and lack of retention make me think Sakic wouldn't be interested. My guess is his offer would be something like Compher, Kaut, and a third. If there is middle ground, then maybe it works. If not, I think they're happy to see if one of the youngsters can step up.

All that said, if it appears Colorado has a hole in the top six as the year progresses, they may have to reconsider what they're willing to give up at the deadline.
