I'm not sure the VAN panic bridge/shorter deals will re-set the market after Makar, Miro, etc. And it doesn't help your team get under cap here since you have 4mil magically on LTIR : P

You're going to be light on Fox's 8 year deal. Fox has got the Norris consideration on his resume. Fox is clearly in the 9's on a 8 year deal.

Adam Fox gets at least 8 x $9,000,000 as does Mika Zibanejad. And Jack Eichel at 25% is worth more then those pieces rather easily.

With or without the retention?
$2,500,000 is the same salary as Asplund, Caggiula and Pysyk.
Among them they will play over 184 games.
That much retention means the Sabres will need to sign 6 or 7 players to the NHL minimum.
Very hard to compete with that many marginal players on the team.
I have seen another option, take out Strome add Trouba and the Sabres add Miller and remove the retention.
While he is over paid, Trouba could be a great mentor for Dahlin and Power for the next five years.

I've advocated for Trouba, but the problem is his NMC. I really cannot imagine anyone waiving a NMC to play in Buffalo right now

In my mind, the trade only makes sense with including one of Trouba or Kreider, but their NMCs block it. If you don't trade one or the other, the cap becomes unbearable two years from now when Lafreniere and Miller and Chytil, etc, are up.

It is unsustainable to retain $2,500,000 for five years.
The Sabres will be fun to watch as the players will try hard and are playing for contracts, but with AHL GK their GF may increase but their GA will skyrocket.
Let's presume Buffalo is not on Trouba's 15 No Trade Team, what would the Rangers and Sabres add?

buffalo isnt trying to compete by any means. dead last in league competing? They need to rebuild Trouba v Miller will not make a huge difference this next year. The team is really bad.
Only Thompson is an NHL RW, Pysyk is the third RHD, and Anderson is the top GK.
They will play hard and will be fun to watch, but in the end they will not reach 70 points with Trouba or Kreider or Strome on the team.
The issue would be to get players to waive their NTC.
I would like to hear from you, what you think the Sabres and Rangers would add to a Trouba-Miller/Eichel trade.

Pretending that Trouba would go, I would say something like Trouba, Georgiev, Chytil, Kakko OR Kravstov, and a 1st round pick, for Eichel and Miller, is a good start. Strome can either be included in the trade, or dealt to to someone else for a pick (VGK and OTT has expressed interest, etc). You then run Eichel, Zibanejad, and Goodrow as your top 3 centers. It's possible you keep Strome until the deadline or whenever Eichel returns. Maybe if they are really in the playoff hunt you keep him, but I don't see him being re-signed if Eichel is on the team, of course

I made a team of this a while back, though admittedly I probably added a bit too much on the Rangers' side haha. But if you wanted to see a basic idea of how the roster would like after that. I probably would remove Zac Jones from the trade now, given Eichel won't be ready for some time now. Also Nick Ritchie is obviously unobtainable now, so put Dryden Hunt or Gauthier there, or someone else

LOL what else is new Shibbal18 did not like the trade, he is a pure idiot!
He does not understand that once Jack is traded the Sabres need to add $8,000,000 to their salaries to reach the floor.
NYR1983 was a bit hyperbolic, but he was correct that it is an over pay.

https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2669806

The talent exchange of Miller, Colin for Trouba, Jacob favors Buffalo, but if the goal is to dump cap, it is still unfair but understandable.
Same for the exchange of Tokarski, Dustin for Georgiev, Alexandar, it still greatly favors Buffalo

Eichel, Jack
for
Kakko, Kaapo
Strome, Ryan
2022 1st round pick (NYR)
Is close to what I think Buffalo will get, the Rangers need to add piece to make it fair.
So take out Jones and Chytil I think you have a deal and Georgiev and Trouba are the pieces that put the trade over the top.

Let me also say, my son understand hockey better than any one.
He can see value without prejudice of rooting for a team interfering.
We discussed Jack being traded to the Rangers and felt Jack for Kakko, Strome, Georgiev and 2022 first would be the return.
Trouba, Jones and Chytil are too much, but not enough to get Dahlin.
As a said, only Shibbal18 would object to a trade that is absolutely one sided in Buffalo's favor.
Thank you for reminding me that you may have been the first Ranger ACGM who posted a Miller and Trouba swap.
