Why? Engvall is an AHL calibre player that can't be fully buried and Dermott is a run of the mil 3rd pairing D man. Cole at least smacks what moves, and he's only on a 1 year deal, as opposed to Dermotts 2. Cole is also a multiple-time cup champion, and the only member of the blueline to have accomplished that feat even once. He is also literally the Hurricanes personified. Like if the organization was a person, it would be Ian Cole.
