You're dreaming if you think Johnson and Lucic waive their NMCs for Sabres.

So Buffalo takes on two bad contracts and one 1st which is two years away. Prospects are fine but they are not taking on EJ or Lucic deals.

Similar premise but LA was the third team instead of the Avs

This is indeed a problem

There are 2 firsts.

Buffalo doesn't need the cap space but you may be right still. I think EJ with 50% retained would probably still be worth an asset to a contender at next years deadline. Lucic is straight up dead money though

Buffalo and Calgary accept, but there’s no way Colorado gives up Newhook and 1st for Monahan

They are also dumping EJ's salary. I see it as almost Newhook for Monahan and first to dump EJ or something along those lines.

Picks are worth a lot with the tight cap right now so I don’t think they’d have to pay that much to get rid of Johnson. Also Johnson only has 1 year left, if Monahan doesn’t rebound his contract has more years and dollars. Also considering the risk of Monahan I’d rather have Newhook. I think it’s more likely it’s Monahan for Johnson and a 1st

I see what your saying. My general belief is Monahan will bounce back on a different team so maybe I'm over valuing him a little.
