How Nashville could evitate Weber recapture penalty by making him retire earlier

First of all, you're not getting Askarov in a deal like this.

Second, there's no way he retires until at least 23/24 when he's done making decent money ($6M this year, $3M next year) his last 3 years of salary are at $1M. And at that point (or before) NASH will toss MTL a pick or B prospect for him to avoid the recapture penalty.

Saw that if Weber retire in 2024 the recapture penalty is 12 285 714$ for 2 seasons. 8 190 476 in 2023 for 3 seasons and 6 142 857 for 4 seasons, in any way the Preds would have a total penalty of 24 571 428$ But it seems that the CBA changed and they will get a penalty equal to his average cap hit so they don’t have to get him back.

They did change the rules so Nashville can stretch it out over 4 years at his cap hit but that is still a lot of dead money.
