      @F50marco

      Couple of issues here for me

      1. Kassian was ran out of Montreal, I seriously doubt they consider taking him back.

      2. Perault should get a 4th or 5th so only slightly beet than the offer here.

      3. This is the major one for me, you are taking 6.9 mil cap and o ly receiving 2 4ths for it. That 6.9 could be used to bring in a major young guy on a multi year deal. S9 unless we are getting 2 2nds then I wouldn't retain that much.

      According to every person on this site, no team has any use for any player, ever........ unless you can see the future, you have no idea if you'll have a use or not for a player in 3 months from now at the TDL. Injuries happen and depth players are added like this specifically for that.

      1: Who cares? That was MB's problem. Kassian isn't brought in to be a player we want. Just a player to fascilitate the trade.

      2: Not gonna lose sleep over pennies. 4th, 5th 7th, who cares. Its not gonna make or break anything.

      3: 6.9M in cap? Its 1.7M for Kessel and 1.7M for Fleury. Cap yes but very little in actual cash and it only for the TDL. Its for like 2 months of the cap that we won't be using anyway. Zero risk, all the gain. They're both UFA's.

      1. Why take a problem player back after getting rid of him it just disrupts the locker room, especially for the younger guys.

      2. Near sightedness was also MB's problem, those 4th and 5ths might not look like much but could still wind up being a Gallagher type of steal. Taking a loss on mid to late round picks could mean missing on hidden gems.

      3. My bad I was thinking we did the first retention

      I'm okay with most of this.
      Retention on Kassian isn't a good idea for Edmonton and shouldn't matter to Montreal. Preferably he's flipped immediately as well, return doesn't matter.

      Hes not a problem player though. He made one mistake and moved on from it. Hes been decent in EDM ever since the trade and his personality hasnt destroyed the EDM young guys. Its a fallacy. Either way, hes means to and end. If we can move him again, im happy with that. He was never the goal of the trade.

      Im still confused with your #2 #3 though. Were retaining on pending ufas for 2 months and were the ones getting the 4ths. This is a no brainer from the Habs perspective. The cap is pointless to the Habs this year and frankly even next year as they are trying to rebuild and will be under the cap next year as well too.

      I agreed with you on the 3rd point and said I made a mistake, comment 2 was regarding getting a 4th for Perrault instead of a 6th. Why sell low when a slightly higher pick gives you a slightly higher chance at finding a gem. I know ot is just 2 late round picks but giving up value is still giving up value.

      Oh ok wasnt sure what you meant. Got it now.

      Ah im not sweating over 4th round picks man. This isnt definite. It may end up being a 4th in the end. All these are just estimates anyway.

      I'm not sure this does much for Edmonton. Chiarot is a #4-5 defenseman and the Oilers aren't desperate for another winger, so it's hard to see them giving up TWO first round picks in this package. This sort of deal implies that they're going all in to make the most of a closing window, which isn't the case at all. They'll need the 2023 first to boost the team next deadline.
