people look too much at individual trades instead of the whole result, yes Olofsson should get some type of pick back but I don't want to have to fine tune everything so it's exactly even.

Basically besides a general lack of top end talent the Sabres need mentors and some physicality - unfortunately while the Sabres have really improved the talent in their pipeline they just don't have a grit there that can play anytime soon - they did get three power forward types in the last draft but these guys are all 2-4 years away from the NHL

He hits, he's physical, his defense is pretty good, he doesn't do stupid things and I think his pts will be in the 35-40 range maybe the term should be shortened to 4 years but Buffalo is going to have to pay a premium in pay and term.

Edmonton declines, that's not going to get you one of the league's elite offensive defensemen.

Why on earth would you pay him 7million to hit and be physical when you just traded for Crouse and Greenway???? You can get 30 points a year for like 4million. It's a bad signing man just own it lol

If I was sitting in Ken Holland's seat and Kevyn Adams called me with that offer, I'd counter with Barrie + Turris = Girgensons and one of either Quinn or Krebs. I'd fully expect the conversation to end there, but if Adams agreed I'd be happy to file the papers.

My next two calls would be with Ron Hextall and Doug Armstrong.

I really don't want Barrie that much - I just saw that trade from a GM but another look and he wasn't even an Oiler fan - why people want to make trades for teams they are not fans of I don't know- between Dahlin, Power, and Joki I think we have enough offensive defensemen, I can live with a bottom pairing stay at home defenseman.

tears of joy LOL Barrie isn't going to fetch you All-star Zemgus Girgensons. His contract is abominable, buddy cannot defend even on good team. Only reason he gets points is because McDavid and Drai share the ice with him on the PP.

Barrie, like Ceci, Koskinen, and a few others, seems to have a tarnished image among many fans. His offensive numbers are elite (and they were well before he became an Edmonton Oiler), and while he has never been, or claimed to be, a strong defender in his own zone, he is not as bad as a lot of people would make him out to be. He can be a nice asset for a contending team that needs to improve its transition game and power play. It makes no sense for Buffalo to trade out assets for a player like that. Give them 2-3 more seasons, and perhaps then they will be in a position to look for complimentary players like Tyson Barrie. In the meantime, the Oilers, when healthy, have an abundance of puck moving defenders and can afford to trade Barrie if doing so might fetch them a very good 3C, a more shut-down oriented veteran defender of equal value, or a veteran starting goaltender to add insurance in case Smith is unavailable.

Clueless. He's a top-10 offensive defenseman in the league at 5v5 and has been long before he arrived in Edmonton. His defensive shortcomings are well documented - if he was good defensively he'd be making $9M+ instead of $4.5M. He has a good contract.

In the past 4.3 seasons (only 1.3 in Edmonton) Barrie is 5th in the entire league in points. Only Carlson, Hedman, Burns and Josi have more points than Barrie. He's an elite offensive defenseman.

Oh, and this season Barrie's $4.5M contract puts him 73rd among defensemen for AAV. https://www.capfriendly.com/browse/active/2022/caphit/all/defense?pg=2

Whatever makes you feel better about his signing with the Oilers... He isn't going to help them win come playoffs. That's my opinion and you are welcome to disagree.

Are you still going on lol, as I explained I only included Barrie because it was a proposed trade from an Oiler GM, OK that guy who proposed the trade was not an Oiler fan, I should have checked I'm sure Barrie is great and worth way more than Girgensons but to me he's really an after thought - I'll edit.
