In a year where there is no real consensus top pairing D available, we use a top-5 pick on Nemec? Dear lord please no

I'd rather keep Zucker. Hoffman is a great threat on the PP, but his production at 5v5 is no better than Zucker, while being a black hole defensively.

Seider was a consensus top-pairing dman... Nemec & Jiricek are widely looked at as middle pairing guys. You don't waste a top-5 pick on that

seider was ranked 16 by bob Mckenzie who interviews 10 scouts and averages it out. Everybody was shocked when seider was taken sixth.Central scouting had him as the number 4 European D. I can't find one person who had him top 10, highest being 15. Nemec and Jiricek are both considered to be easy top 4 dmen who have a legitimate shot at being top pair

Not saying that's who'd id take, as it depends on where we pick and whose gone. But to lose your mind about picking them isn't that smart

No they aren't. They're both pegged as having #1 D upside.

Name me one defensemen who wasn't thought of to be a sure thing top pairing D go in the top-5, i'll wait... THAT wouldn't be too smart

I mentioned not a firm top pair as outside of truly special defence man, namely those who go first overall I don't personally consider someone a firm top pair unless the draft is truly special with d-men

Both of these two are firmly very good defensemen who should certainly be considered in the top 5. If other people mention top pair that's on them, I won't go that far just as I wouldn't when Hanifin went 5

could you provide your rankings at least up until those two

There's a difference between very good defensemen and ELITE top-pairing game changing defensemen. One you take with a top-5 pick, the other you don't. Alls I'm saying is, you don't go after a defensemen at 1-5 if you're not 100% sure they will be a top-2 on your team for the next decade +

My rankings are I would have the Forward group with bigger star potential from 1-7 and Nemec & Jiricek just inside/outside the top-8

    1. Wright
    2. Kemell
    3. Savoie
    4. Lambert
    5. Yurov
    6. Cooley
    7. Slafkovsky

Hoffman is a meh trade for us. We need someone who can play on a wing when Geno comes back. I’d rather have Drouin or Toffoli on a line with him than Hoffman

I understand your point now, I know its early but Yurov cooley and Slafkovsky project as middle six players. just wondering why your comfortable with a most likely middle six winger over a sure thing top 4 dman. Like Nemec and jiricek are in the Jeff perty (outside of this year ) category with some more upside while you listed three players who are in the Toffoli territory (outside of last year)

I can certainly understand if you had him at 5. Again the confusing thing is your okay with meh forwards but will only take elite defensemen?

Because defensemen notably take much longer to make an impact at the nhl level than forwards do. And it is much easier to find steady very good defensemen outside of the top-10 than it is high skilled forwards.

Id rather wait 7 years for massive impact than 5 for mediocre impact. Is your goal with this potential top 5 pick to turn the habs around as to me outside of your top 4 those players are very long shots to be the type of player to turn a team around. watching Montreal for years I absolutely am driven mental but mediocre players

To me based on your list if you have pick 5 you either pick Miroshnichenko as he has massive upside or you grab one of the two d

Very good but not elite defensemen have so much more value than mediocre/solid forwards. Not sure why you'd take the considerably less valuable player simply because they impact the team early

Also defensemen outside of Nemec and Jiricek are absolute crap shoots while you can get some legitimate forwards with massive skill like lekkerimaki in the first round and there's always tons of talented forwards in the other rounds

Draft the defensemen over cooley Yurok geekie and Slafkovsky and wait the extra couple of years as its worth it. Also really good defencemen develop pretty quickly

Well i Kindly disagree... and if you're looking to make an impact in 7yrs time, I wld personally trade down then and take Salomonsson instead of the two you are so high on

why would you take a much weaker player just to gain a second. Our conversation seems to come down to you being fine with mediocrity and me not liking mediocrity. I mentioned 7 years as Cooley Yurok Slafkovsky are probably 5 years away from a prime impact so I added two years because they are defence man.

My opinion is and will continue to be get massive impact players and build off them for a championship team and add mediocre players to finish off the roster not to build around

    Good day sir

Man I couldn’t agree more with everything you said. Sure we take Wright Kemell Savoie over Nemec or Jiricek, but after those 3, I am torn with taking the big RHD. I know this would be for position instead of BPA but if they are equals, I would go with a RHD. And yes, no one had Seider in their top 10, freaking nobody.

id add Lambert to that list above Nemec and jiricek. he can skate so well, pass really well. Im still a fan of Miroshnichenko but that's a tough one. To me Nemec and Jiricek become the best player available (which a term I hate) ahead of cooley Slafkovsky and Yurov

I feel Lehkonen is also gonna be moved

Apparently last offseason they tried to move him for Blais but he refused to sign in St. Louis which was why Mtl gave him that 1 year deal as apparently they plan to try again.

Could get a nice return for him though as he would be a welcomed addition to competitive teams bottom 6

If we are rebuilding, he should stay because his work ethic is perfect. He is appreciated from all is teammates, everything will depends on is new deal IMO. If he wants 3M+ I think they will move him for sure

id add Lambert to that list above Nemec and jiricek. he can skate so well, pass really well. Im still a fan of Miroshnichenko but that's a tough one. To me Nemec and Jiricek become the best player available (which a term I hate) ahead of cooley Slafkovsky and Yurov

I can’t talk abut Miroshnichenko because I never saw him played, but yeah Lambert should be ahead of Nemec & Jiricek

lets just say if everything goes right you've got a special winger

Dude can skate, hit and has an absolutely lethal shot both wrister and one timer from the ovi office

unfortunately he's been inconsistent in the points department in the vhl this year

its a tough call for me to take him ahead of Nemec and Jiricek but I just really like this kid and if you can get a 40 goal scorer who can riffle it on the pp and hit , my goodness you've got a beast

Ok so it sounds like you two would also now take Wright, Kemell, Savoie, Lambert, Miroshnichenko over Nemec/Jiricek?

lol so precisely what I was saying then as I stated earlier, you don't pick either of those guys with a top-5 pick... Fine take them over Cooley/Yurov/Slafkovsky but not the others who are game breakers and will be high impact offensive catalysts for whichever team drafts them

If we wanna get technical I didn’t say firmly to take Miroshnichenko. I said maybe but it’s tough for me. If you take Wright, savoie,Lambert, kemell that makes the the d you take a top 5 pick

Not sure why you’d be upset with him going 5 but not 6. The strength of the draft would determine that one spot

To me if you have the balls you take Miroshnichenko 5 but it also depends on your team. Currently I’m not having him as a firm pick over the two d
