Giroux will be one of the best deadline pickups available.

On no planet does a rental get you a 1st and our top prospect. Never mind the fact you also included a decent 3rd line guy with a good deal with a few years on it.

The Oilers have shown they are still far from being a complete team and mortgaging several pieces that will be a part of the solution for the next 5-10 years for 20 games of a rental is just plain dumb. I do think the Oilers should be making additions to give McDavid and Draisaitl support, but this move is very far from that. Holloway has all the makings of being the winger for McDavid for the next decade and we will likely see him in the line-up this season already.

That'd be a really bad move by Edmonton.

Edmonton won’t trade anything except picks.

All of your posts way overvalue Giroux. By retaining 50%, Philly could reasonably get a 2022 1st, decent prospect, and a roster player to balance cap. There could be a conditional 2nd depending on the playoff results of the team Giroux is traded to. In the Oilers situation that could look like 2022 1st, Lavoie, and Kyle Turris

I don't overvalue Giroux - I worked on the premise that all these teams would be serious contenders and seriously desperate for something to put them over the top. What everyone on here forgets is that teams in the past have mortgaged their future for a chance at winning the cup. If Edmonton really thought that by getting Giroux they would win the cup they wouldn't care what the Flyers asking price is.

Except you forget that Ken Holland is the GM of the Oilers. No team is going to pay 2 great assets + more for a rental Giroux at the TDL, I don't care how much they want to win the Cup. Giroux has not brought the Flyers a Cup despite the fact that they have had some strong teams over the years. Sure he's a great player, but he isn't a player who has the pedigree of winning that will command teams to pay through the nose to get

Just look at what the Flyers paid to get Risto, and they were only trying to MAKE the playoffs
Im not saying you are wrong but again I did this based on a teams willingness to overpay for an asset to try to get an edge on their competition. You're taking this way too personally

But that trade in no way sacrificed their future. It also was not a fair trade, they paid more than necessary. I am not taking this personally at all, its your AGMs not mine. Just giving my view that team's will not trade that much to acquire Giroux
