LOL - yeah. Some owner is going to pay ~$10,000,000.00 for a 3rd round pick and a random "C" prospect.

Some of these retention ideas on here are fukkin hilarious.

I get we're talking about Billionaires and everything, and they have more $$ then any of us on here can even comprehend.

But, this idea would still involve a GM walking into his owner's office and asking him to buy a 3rd round pick and some dime a dozen prospect for $10M.

It's crazy to me that half the proposals on here think something like this possibly could happen (should happen).

The thing is if Price is getting traded MTL will receive a 1st RD pick + good prospect even if we all agreed on here no team should pay for Price even if he is a beast in the playoffs. But GMs look more at reputation and overlook the contract.

Yeah, I'm more talking about the random other team mentioned that will pay $2M per for 5 years for a 3rd and Oloffson.

I'm not so sure about Price getting that. 34 years old. Lots of term left. Long history of injuries. The other struggles he's going through now. Wasn't 3 of the last 4 regular seasons.

Also, goalies have different values then typical players. MAF was dealt for peanuts this off-season. I really don't see many teams lining up to do MTL a favour. Especially a contending team (95% of them are tight to the cap, and will be for foreseeable future). Then to top it off, how much would Molson actually be willing to retain?

I'm thinking most contenders tight on cap needing a 1B type would be wayyyyyyy more likely to go after Fleury, M. Jones, Holtby at the deadline.

Sabres don't need Rodrigue. Also, they'd probably do it for the 3rd and 4th anyway.

Oh yeah forgot about that 2M retained for Olofsson (not even a prospect, will never make it to the NHL) and a 3rd. That’s just not happening. I don’t think Price is worth a 1st + with salary retained, but scouts under anonymous said MTL would get MINIMUM a 1st RD pick and a prospect. They should take a bad contract as well. But a team acquiring Price would put them in contention automatically. He is THAT good in the postseason. People are still complaining about is regular season, let me know last year Price wasn’t God like in the playoffs

I saw that re: scouts as well. The thing with scouts is they don't have to worry about salary cap, and really don't factor that in when they give their opinions.

Goalies can get hot. Matt Murray was a playoff God a few years ago.

Price wasn't even thought of as clutch playoff goalie until 5 years ago or so.

Again. 95% of contenders don't have the capspace to take on Price this year, or for the next 5. There's no way there's going to be a bidding war foer him, there just isn't enough contenders that can afford him.
