Jokes aside, I dont think we are looking to moveDermott. Young, local guy that plays both sides. Hes getting more physical and hes underratedly strong. If we were looking to move him, maybe a 3rd or a 4th?

I'd probably expect a 2nd for him. I look at Zadorov's trade to Calgary in the offseason as a comparable. A young 3rd pairing defenseman who fetched a 3rd round pick. Dermott is younger, on a better contract and has at the very least 2 seasons term remaining in the coming offseason so it elevates to a 2nd.

MTL would ask a 3rd for Kulak, if they can’t get that than a 4th, if they can’t get a 4th they keep him

Absolutely not, Zadorov is a terrible comparison. A 4th rounder is enough for Dermott

How so? Hell, Dermott's numbers and defensive impacts are even better than Zadorov. The simple fact is when you are trading for RFAs who show they belong in the NHL, it costs.

Doesn't mean Zadorov is a good trade comparable. Nobody is giving up a 3rd for Dermott right now

Ok if you won't tell us why Zadorov isn't a good comparable then by all means, who do you see as comparables?

Hmm, maybe Erik Gudbranson? He was being passed around the past couple of seasons for late round picks

Except Dermott has much better numbers than Gudbranson and a much much better defensive impact(see not negative). Not to mention he's a fraction of Gudbranson's age and you are trading for 3 years of his term. In other words, not in any way a comparable for Dermott.

and so thats not the guy you are trying to compare him to. You are trying to compare a defenseman who largely had negative impacts on his team earning 4 mil aav. Again, in no fashion a comparable to a young, positive impact defenseman with 3 years term remaining on a good contract.

Dermott hasn't been talked about in a terribly positive manner in the past couple of seasons

Thats nice. His numbers have been great, a positive impact on the ice isn't really debatable. Some names for comparables from analytical models for you: Cal Foote in Tampa, Nick Holden in Ottawa, Colin Miller in Buffalo, Nick Leddy and Filip Hronek in Detroit.

Or here, you're a Vancouver fan so: Travis Dermott is having as much of an impact this season as Luke Schenn is in Vancouver. (while playing 3rd pairing compared to the 1st pairing minutes Schenn is currently getting). The difference? Dermott is younger and under team control for longer.

Leddy and Hronek are both better than Dermott, I'm quite surprised you've brought them both up as comparables

TBH Kulak and Dermott are very similar players. So whatever you would pay to acquire Kulak is likely what you would pay for Dermott.
