Yeah I had to park those guys somewhere even to get down to about $7.25M that needs to be cleared. I figured VGK picked them up for basically nothing and won't care if they go for nothing. But overall they'd like to keep them as extras if they can when the playoffs have no salary cap.

Maybe because he is? Once he's on the roster and playing for them, he's going to cost against the cap. At $10M.

I think you're confusing paid salary and actual cap hit counting towards the cap. He's not going to be paid his full salary this year, that's true, but that doesn't mean his full cap hit goes away or down once he joins the team full-time.

Understand the cap is calculated daily cap hit. It isn’t necessarily the Eichel that hurts with Patches on LTIR, its having the cap space to absorb the daily cap hits of Eichel and Martinez (and maybe patches too). Every day Eichel is on the active roster he eats 50k of available cap space.

Detroit is not getting enough to take dadonov and your getting namestnikov on top of that who will probably bring a second or similar at the deadline and retention on top of that.

For Detroit to retain $1,000,000 on Namestnikov and take on Dandonov's contract it needs to be a 2022 2nd round pick on top of a 2023 2nd round pick.

Perhaps. But again, if done early, this might be done with Detroit planning to flip Dadonov, and /or a 3-way deal. But I could live with that.
