Tierney might be helpful...but a 2nd is a big overpay for him. If they can get him for a 4th and 5th...or a 4th + a distant prospect (Gettinger?)- then go for it. Any more expensive than that and NYR should pass. One guy I would look at to fill the 3C void, though is McCann...if dealing with Seattle, that's the guy they should be looking at. For sure he'd be more expensive, but he's still RFA after this year- so if they can't extend him (and they probably wont be able to) they should be able to move him and get a little value back- so he's not really a pure rental.

As far as the Gio move- I'd stay away, and certainly wouldn't burn a 1st rounder on a pure rental -who they'd have no intention to keep. A simple move to help the D: put Zac Jones on 3rd pair with Schneider...and hold onto Nemeth as veteran D depth- then move him after the season.

Tierney? Meh. Barron has played very well, we may not need to make a move there.

As far as 3LD, I dont think we need to go for someone as high profile as Gio. I think a simpler, cheaper move like Calvin De Haan would be plenty suitable for us.

Chytil has looked decent as the RW with Panarin and Strome, no reason for us to move him away from there.

If were going to trade the 1st round pick, it should be for someone of Pavelski/Giroux level, not Gio.

Slight overpay for both, but a realistic deadline

Agree - Tierney having a bad season and is a buy low candidate. GIO could Garner a 2nd at TDL

2nd would more than do it for Tierney. Honestly could probably get him for a 3rd and a 7th or even just a 3rd.

As for Gio - would he be a pure rental? If he fits well, he’s at the stage of his career where he should be taking like 1yr/$2m contracts. And if we can simultaneously get rid of Nemeth, that’s a net gain

I think Gio will warrant more than that- but even if he were that generous in his salary demand going forward, I'm not sure if NYR could even afford that. Depending on what they do with Strome, their CAP is gonna be real tight next year...and I think it's a foregone conclusion that Nemeth has to get moved- in any scenario- and replaced by a guy making 1M or less.

the way this team has been playing, with 2 months till TDL there is no reason to rush anything
So:
1. continue on with Chytl at 2RW...they have the opportunity to see once and for all what they have (or don't have) in him...if it works, 2 problems are solved: a young player is awaken, and the hole at wing is solved....but it does open a hole at 3C
2. Give Barron 1st shot at 3C...assuming LaF/Barron/Gaut doesn't kill the team defensively(any reason to believe otherwise replacing Chytl with Barron?) , if they do have chemistry- look out!
3. 3rd pair: Jones/Schneider. Not sure what their dissatisfaction with Nils is all about- but I'd even try him on his offside, paired with Schneider. Either way- Jones or Nils on off side- huge upgrade over Nemeth...hold onto Nemeth as a depth D (no need to make a deal for one) and look to move him after the season.

Ride this out for a few weeks and re-evaluate from there...if things work out, they might not HAVE to make any moves at TDL...in a perfect scenario, they could even sell a player or 2 at TDL to gain more assets, while not affecting the on ice product. On the other hand, if something isn't working, they do have plenty of picks and prospects to add a player or 2...just hope that if it comes to that they aren't short sighted...if Drury plays his cards right this team can be a contender this year and years into the future.

In reference to Nils, did you see anything in his play that particularly stood out to you? Because I havent.

not that you can judge him on one particular goal...but the goal he did score was a pretty nasty shot- so I would think more to come...but no- I did not see anything particular about him which has had the insiders seemingly fawning over him the past few years. Unlike Schneider- who albeit a very small sample- seems to fit right into NHL. Keep in mind though that probably a much bigger adjustment for him- coming from Sweden. And I believe his numbers- when playing away from Nemeth- are pretty good. I just don't want NYR to rush to judgement and bail on Nils...while he has seemingly gotten off to a slow start, he has a long ramp in front of him...and only a year and a half ago, many were saying he could be better than Fox....PATIENCE!!

Well, we cant afford 2 Fox's. Let alone 2 Fox's and a Shea Weber (Schneider). I said it a while back that were getting to this point with the defense that the Predators were at like 5 years ago when they had Weber, Josi, Jones, Ellis, Ekholm... you can only afford to keep so many of them. We got Lindgren and Fox, Miller and Trouba, Schneider, Nils, Jones, Robertson. Something gotta give at some point and we need to convert our assets into position(s) of need.

without a doubt...at some point they have to move someone- for CAP purposes, to satisfy positions of need, and/or to generate even more futures.

The problem is we need to ideally swap ELCs for ELCs.

this is true...but these are difficult trades to consumate...at a time where the players involved are still developing, no GM wants to look like the "loser" of the trade a year or 2 later. ELC's for future picks is probably more common because that is done for unavoidable CAP concerns.
