Description
Thought behind trade:

Nashville -
big upgrade from Johansen to draisaitl

Big downgrade from Saros to koskinen but koskinen infront of a much better defense should still be good enough. Edmontons defense is poor so they need a stronger goalie like Saros to compensate for that

Kassian fills in where Jeannot has been on the “beast line” and Jeannot gets a promotion

Oilers
Johansen at 6.5M is a good deal and a good 2C

Saros is an outstanding goalie with excellent fundamentals and movement. He’s young and has a great contract

Frees up cap from purging Kassian and koskinen

Picks up a solid young piece in Tolvanen.

Not sure what else might be needed if anything. Maybe a swap of Myers and Barrie. I’d much rather keep Myers but his skill set might be preferential for Edmonton since Barrie is redundant to Bouchard. If it greased the trade wheels I’d be ok with it from Nashville as Barrie could fill in 3D and could move up in case of injuries and the term on his contract isn’t terrible

Nashville picks up dreidger who is having a pretty poor year in hopes he rebounds on a better team.

Seattle gets a pick and a goalie on an expiring contract

I think this goaltending duo could be strong on a good defensive team like Nashville

Cool idea, but I don't think the value exchange is quite right.
Edmonton needs more for Draisaitl.

Yea cool idea to go after draisaitl but giving up saros would be a big mistake. I don’t think people realize how good he has played the last 2 years but as a pred fan you should. He’s a big reason why the preds are where they are right now. As nice as it would be to have an elite forward I would not make this trade as a preds fan. I’d rather give up askarov than saros right now. That’s just me because I was never a fan of drafting him. Imagine this team with Jarvis or lundell. Poile and his safe pick

Horrible trade. Nashville can go for someone who is cheaper like DeBrincat who apparently is available as this is far from close. Draisaitl has a higher value then McDavid as he is on the best deal in the whole league. I want Ekholm for Keith aswell in this trade plus a few first rounders.

Nashville gets:
Keith, Draisaitl, Kassian, Koskinen

Oilers gets:
Ekholm, Tolvanen, Saros, Johansen, 2022 1st, 2023 1st, 2023 2nd. Still I think Oilers should go for a cheaper goalie like Ullmark or Georgiev who is still good and go for Chychrun. Im more concerned about our defense.

I’d rather give up Askarov as well as we only hope he becomes a true #1 goalie but Edmonton wants to win now which is why I did Saros instead.

Young starting goalies are hard to come by. I agree they probably want more though. Just not sure what the difference would be.

Neither Ullmark or Georgiev are better then what you have now. Real upgrades that are young and proven will cost something. I do agree your defense could use an overhaul as well and chychrun is a good target. He will cost an arm and a leg though

What? Ullmark had 14 wins in 20 games in Buffalo last season. He is legit. Also Georgiev would be better than what we have now at least. Koskinen has been horrible and Smith is ok I guess but they would definitely be better. But defense is the most important aspect. I was thinking 2 1st and Broberg could maybe seal the deal but again Chychrun could even cost more. But we should try to go after him.

I don't think the OP works for either side, but your counter offer is an easy pass from NSH, even without the three cap dumps you're sending over with Draisaitl.

You’re right on Ullmark. I was thinking of Korpisalo which is another name I’ve seen thrown out there. Ullmark would be an upgrade but not sure why Boston would part with him. Maybe if they think swayman is ready but they sent him down and signed rask so I dont think they’re ready to make that move and rask has had a rough start coming back

Not sure on Georgiev being better. His sv% has dropped every season and he’s currently sporting a .902 while Shesterkin is .938. So it doesn’t seem like it’s the team infront of him and more of a personal issue. Smith should’ve retired at the end of last season going out after a great year. He’s at an age most goalies are retired from the nhl and he has a lengthy injury history.

Chychrun price is gonna be tricky. Hard to believe he’s still only 23. He has a pretty good contract as well. I would think broberg and a couple 1st should be sufficient but who knows what Arizona gm is going to want. Trading a tough 1st pairing d when your team is bottom of the league is a hard pill to swallow
