Miller at TDL

Created by: EccE
Team: 2021-22 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 26, 2022
Published: Jan. 26, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With Miller, the Wild would become bonafide contenders in the West, even challenging the Avs.

Next year, we have 11,9 million to sign Fiala (arbitration rights), Kähkönen (arbitration rights), Greenway (arbitration rights), Dewar (RFA), Sturm (gone as a UFA), Benn (gone as a UFA), Goligoski (takes a paycut, per rumor) and Rask (gone as a UFA). It can be done.

Miller's price here is two 1st round picks, one of them being the D prospect I've heard Nucks need. This is definitely not an underpayment, nor is it an overpayment. But make sure to kill me in the comments!

That wont get it done, even without retention.

I'm not sure MIN is the ideal trading partner for Vancouver, as Vancouver will want a very good RD or C prospect as part of the return package.

Canucks need some jam/net-front-presence, and have an OK young core if they don't c*ck it up too bad, so propose:
a) a deal where Miller-Greenway are swapped somehow?, or
b) Boldy becomes a stalwart on VAN's roster and Minny takes back mature players for their West playoff push (parts of Miller/Pearson/Motte/etc etc), Lottery-protected picks/prospects too?
WIN-WIN baby...

Solid offer although I think the Canucks would prefer Addison over Lambos as they are pretty set for LHD

By the time the prospect/first pick (late round too given MIN solid play of late) makes an impact in the NHL, both EP40/QH's hairlines will be receding further than the Sedins of late...

Boldy is a non-starter for a deal, but we could negotiate Greenway. The Wild really don't want to pay for Motte/Pearson or anybody like that - we have depth.

I hear ya - 110%..!!
Had to throw out Boldy like a sweet-baited fishing line in a cold MIN pond; looking for nibbles! LOL
Thus far (small sample-size yeah) but is he a "James Neal/maybe a Huberdeau-lite/Guentzel-ish"?

Your thoughts?

I think Boldy plays very similarly to Zach Parise in his hay-day. He works hard, isn't afraid to make contact or drive to the net and he is super-skilled. The locker-room loves him. He is in Minnesota to stay and I'd be shocked if he ever wears the Iowa Wild jersey again.

MoFo can pick corners on NHL tenders thus far/pt a game...!
Gotta hope the opposing coaches stay away from "video-study-killing him"

Boldy's hockey IQ and stick skills have already been better than anything we ever saw from Parise. Not as good of a skater, but when his career is done I think it'll be better than Zach's.

This is probably the only trade package that makes sense for us if A) Seravelli is right and Miller will get a 1st and top prospect and B) Guerin is convinced enough that Hunt or O'Rourke have 2nd pairing potential. Canucks fans have mentioned Addison in a bunch of different threads but that just doesn't make any sense for us to do with zero potential top 4 RHD in our system and our tricky cap situation. I'm not sure I'd be too thrilled with this, but Miller easily makes us a better team in so many ways. Still think the Rangers could give a better package if they're willing to part Schneider

not even close if Vancouver is retaining money for 2 years.
Without retaining money = Beckman, Lambos, 1st
2 Years Retaining 40% = Boldy, Lambos, 1st

maybe so, but thats the asking price for a point per game player, built for the playoffs, with character in the room on a team friendly deal and term remaining...

Point per game player - once, this year in 40 games
Term remaining - a whopping one year
Character in the room - doesn't really bring a whole lot of value trade-wise

I think you are stretching quite a lot here. It's not like Miller carries Eichel-like value...

eichel value was limited due contract value vs health concerns and uncertain surgery, if you believe healthy Eichel gets the same then you are out to lunch.

Miler has been a point per game since being in Vancouver
Every year at the deadline and draft, GM overpay for playoff character thru the nose.

1st, young roster player and A level prospect, former 1st rounder is the going rate for player of Millers caliber, contract and term.

Like of not....

FWIW the wild doesnt have the assets to get deal done anyway

I think fans overvalue what Miller is going to fetch in return, but I also think the trade market is going to be different than most years as the deadline is later in the year and playoff teams should likely be set for the most part.

Last year Sam Bennett netted the Flames essentially 2 second round picks, he's 3 years younger, making half the $$$ and was an RFA.

Bennett was in the dog house at the time, has lower floor but higher long term upside.

Miller should fetch more then that but how much more remains to be seen.
