According to Pierre LeBrun, the Canucks would only be interested in moving Miller for 3-4 prospects or high value assets

After reading this I definitely overpayed I will edit it

This is a huge overpayment.

I get Miller is playing a solid year but he's just not worth ruining your future completely.

Indeed.

To be fair I don't think the current one will be enough. Simply because there will be a bidding war and it's likely a team like Rangers could beat this one.

I don’t know what to do with this team anymore. We aren’t good enough right now. And it’s not getting better. We need to make some changes. We need to add. We need to win a cup. I feel bad for number 8. We are worse than the oilers right now and that means something.

Miller would be awesome for the caps but the acquisition price might just be too high. I think what Washington really needs is to solidify their goaltending. I wouldn't be shocked if they acquire Varlamov.

Well for starters there's very small number of teams worse than Oilers right now if we consider last 15 games. Only Kraken, Habs and Flyers qualify points wise. And at least you're still looking like a playoff team.

But as you said, WSH is not good enough right now to compete. I would hesitate moving futures now, couple of TDL acquisitions are not going to change what's going on with them right now. Plus their playoff record have been pretty bad after the cup win - they haven't won a single series, and have won only 5 postseason games since 2018. One TDL is not going to change that.

Ovi knew the situation of the team when he committed long-term with them. And to be fair statistically speaking he's comparably playing his best hockey right now.

A huge decision is waiting MacLellan at the offseason. Should he start an age cut early and start trading those veterans or try to compete a couple more times before a huge rebuild. I'm personally a fan of the former. Hockey is a young man's game now and speed is a key factor which I believe is something WSH lacks.

We traded every single one of our promising prospects and young guns for pennies. I’m tired of it. But I guess this reality and this is part of a fans experience. 🤷‍♂️. Getting a goalie should be our number one priority. Then hertl and barbs. Then a defensive player better than hags

Wonder if a Dickinson for Hagelin swap with the Canucks could make sense. Rutherford and Allvin are obviously super familiar with Hagelin. Cap hits are almost identical. Dickinson is a pure defensive forward and a black hole on offense.

This was great explanation. Thank you. We look like a playoff team but we are not competing like one. The powerplay is an absolute joke. Now I’m considering waiting on pulling the trigger on trading youths, maybe just get a goalie now and see what happens. Again thank you

As a Canucks fan I think the trade is fair but as was said above I think teams like the Rangers could offer more. I'd be far more excited to get say Lundkvist Othmann and a 1st.

This is tough. Miller would help the PP in it's current state, but it also hasn't been together all year, and are clearly lacking Oshie's presence. However, when Oshie returns, I think we may see the PP improve drastically with Backstrom and Oshie together.

I would say no to this, As I think it will be better in the future to keep a Middle six Center, our top RD (with only Johnson to really compete with him) and a 1st. I'm not confident that this would be the move that puts the team over the top.

I've been on the side of the Caps goaltending for quite some time, and I think last game against SJS summarized the issue with Washington. Samsonov was good throughout most of the night, and the goals came on: When he could do nothing about it, Got Kempny's ass rammed into his face, and shortly after Ovi attempted to assassinate him. Sammy kept Washington in the game for a long time, but the could never capitalize. I think there are a couple ways to fix this.

1. Bench Kempny immediately: Irwin has played better during his stints, and Kempny looks awful out there on a regular occurence. I'd even accept Cholowski over him at this point.

2. Hold more players accountable: Sprong was recently scratched, and I wasn't totally against that due to his poor defensive play. However, this needs to happen for more players. Specifically Eller and Hagelin, who have both played poorly as of recent. Put McMichael and Leason in over them for a game or two, and if the lines work then just roll with it, which leads me into my final one.

3. More Line Continuity: The lines for this team seem to change every game, which can't be good for players trying to find line chemistry. You have guys like Dowd going from being a theoretical 2C with Leason and Hagelin to being randomly inserted on the 3rd line with Sheary and Sprong. Laviolette needs to stick to certain lines for more than 3 games so the Caps actually get into some sort of rythym.

Any other suggestions I have would have to be on ice ones, like not leaving the goalies out to dry every 5 seconds, but that can't be fixed from an off-ice standpoint.

I'll probably repost this in the Caps Forum, but I had a roll going and didn't want to stop here.

Rangers have no interest in making a crap deal for Miller. Trade him elsewhere.
