Description
Getting way ahead of myself on this one. But for a player with a history of concussions among other health issues, maybe it is time for him to retire. There are SOOO many things the blackhawks would be missing on and off the ice if this happened. Even if he isn't the $10.5mil player we used to know, there are certain intangibles he brings to this roster that CHI has no replacement for at the moment. That all being said, WHAT IF??? It would free up a lot of cap space a whole season and a half earlier than originally anticipated. Which could be pretty useful before the TDL and with all this years and next years UFA's. I'm not saying sign all of these players. But they are just some examples of contracts that would be more doable if we had the cap space.

No reason Arizona or any team would be interested in Connelly and Johnson. IMO too much $$$ and term for Smith.

14 games shy of 1000, 15 assists to 500. I hope it’s not the end for him but as you pointed out the concussions are starting to pile up. Lots of long deep playoff runs where he no doubt played through multiple injuries doesn’t help too. That likely takes a toll at some point

Well, AZ is gonna need to fill in their roster after this season and hit the cap floor. One or two short term cap fluffers will do that. Doesn't have to be AZ though and it doesn't have to be both to the same place. Also, it's not really about the players signed, this is just about what Toews retiring could buy. As far as their term and $$$, I'm just going off the ballpark contracts I've seen others posting on here for these players or similar ones. Like the description says, it's not about signing all these specific players. It's just about the possibilities. It could really speed up a rebuild or retool if CHI could get in on some of the upcoming higher end UFA's.

Yeah. I honestly hope it doesn't come to that. It would be a shame. But health comes first. Im just doing this as an exercise in the hypothetical situation that he does retire.

Also, for all I know, Johnson could come back from surgery and prove he is worth his contract. His decline coincides with the progression of the issues he was having. So this could be just what he needed.

i'd assume you just keep him on LTIR if he's retiring for concussion reasons

Hes playing now. Why would he retire for concussion reasons?

he just got another concussion and is out currently, the post is just speculating on what might happen if that concussion leads to him deciding to retire

You're short $2M a year on Hertl, AZ probably doesn't make that move. Where's Kubalik?

Kubalik gets traded. Didn't feel like proposing trades though. This was more about the amount of money that would be free'd up rather than actual target acquisitions.
