From now till the offseason

Created by: hockeybadger
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 30, 2022
Published: Jan. 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rutherford/Boudreau teams play a high pace game with lots and lots of speed. These team also are big are team defense.

- Obligatory Miller trade

- As for Garland to NJD, if the Canucks could peel away one of McLeod or Mercer (doubt it) that would be huge! Walsh could also be a nice piece that has already played with Rathbone at Harvard.

- Canucks can send Boeser a qualifying offer of 7.5 and have an AAV below that. It just needs to be the first year of the contract's value. So I would hope that the Canucks can get him for somewhere near 6M. He does not deserve more than Pettersson and he should know that lol.

- Dickinson/Pearson are two other guys that cap wise could be dumped in reallocation moves by Rutherford. A guy like Erne would be a great option

- From reports looks like Schenn and Burroughs both have value so that could be huge in recouping picks.

- I personally don't think Hoglander is gonna be a mainstay with this team if he's gonna be a bottom six player and could be an expendable asset for this regime. (Maybe they can pull a Goodrow to TBL type trade)

- Guys like Cogliano who possess speed are going to be available in free agency.

- Yes this is still a year of retooling ahead.

Erne is Yzerman's son, he isn't going anywhere, and Sebrango as a prospect is probably more valuable than Dickinson

Hoglander isn't going to get traded this early

Islanders aren't paying a 4th for a D-man that isn't a regular, and the Devils trade is a massive underpay for Garland

Our desire to keep Sebrango out weighs our desire for Dickinson. Also Yverman loves Erne.

If you want to talk Sebrango and plan on dealing Hoglander there could be a conversation there. Sebrango is looking like a nice defensive guy, basically another Lindstrom for us. I feel he will actually carry quite a bit of value.

Detroit is very happy with Sebrango. It would have to be something very good to get him. I also think Detroit values Erne more than some of his potential trade partners would.

Detroit declines. Dickinson has 5 points in 41 games this season. Erne won't be traded. He's Stevie's boy. Sebrango has some good upside. He'll continue developing.

TB has zero cap space and would have to waive 2 of either Katchouk, Foote, Raddysh, Joseph to make the cap space easy pass

Not gonna lie, I did not know Yzerman had this love for Erne LOL. Thanks for letting me know though!

I do agree that it might be a bit early but this is the time to maximize his value for a two year deal at under 1M. Teams are looking for guys like him. He's a huge spark plug and has been used to jump start lines all season. He also doesn't lose puck battles so like seems to be a pretty good comparable, if not better, to Goodrow when the Lighning aquired him.

But also yeah, I forgot that the Isles were so bad this year lol.

Idk, that would be a bit of a sneaky good package for Garland. If you can upgrade one of those picks to a second, I think that's a steal! You get a solid Middle-Six right handed centre who can be trusted defensively and a up-and-coming RHD who has chemistry already with one of your LHD. That address two of the Canucks main deficiencies while adding picks and getting rid of some cap space.

Hoglander is making sub 1M. They can make it work.

Tell me where I'm far off? Take away the players from the trades and read the descriptions/reasonings in the comments and I feel that's a fair value for every of the trades.

I haven't heard much about Reilly Walsh, so I'm not really sold on him as a prospect, and I view Michael McLeod as a bottom six center, he hasn't shown enough offensive ability to qualify as a middle six center, it's still a deft overpay

Not saying the Hoglander trade isn't realistic, but the Canucks are a long ways away from potentially giving up on him

I get that canada has legalized weed, but seriously laf is not getting traded. You dont want to trade miller thats fine, but keep in mind the rangers are absolutely not trading laf or kakko especially not for JT Miller who is never getting powerplay time in ny.
Schneider is a prospect that is at least a reasonable ask, if not one the rangers want to part with.

If JT miller were 3 years younger, and signed for 5 more years then the ask for Laf would be reasonable. JT miller is 1 season away from free agency.
The most comparable trade you have for a player of miller's caliber is the ryan mcdonagh trade.
That was hajak, namestikov, 1st, 1st or 2nd with conditions, and Howden for macdonagh and miller.
Miller and namestikov wash out, as they were about the same player at the time.

Hajak was a C prospect, howden a high B. and 2 firsts.

The gap between picks 1 and pick 10 is huge, the gap between 10 and 25 is huge. Asking for any player 1oa would need an absolute stud signed to a sweetheart deal. Thats not JT miller.

Is laf on pace for 70 points this year? nope. Does he have that upside? Absolutely, and the rangers and anyone who makes that deal would likely never be hired in the NHL again.
