Owen Tippett

Created by: NHLfan10506

Initial Creation Date: Jan. 30, 2022
Published: Jan. 30, 2022

NJD
  1. Tippett, Owen
Additional Details:
Rumored to be on the block, per Jeff Marek. I am not sure what his trade value is these days as he has yet to perform to expectations at NHL level, but still holds some potential with his shooting ability. What would be the ask from the Devils? Players? Cap space? Picks?
FLA
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Maybe a 2nd rounder, which is currently #37 overall?

First of all, he is going to the oilers as we have Dave Tippett. It makes perfect sense! Realistically, I think they wouldn’t trade him for picks, but in a package for a upgrade. Probably for a good forward, or defence men.

The Panthers are probably seeking to trade him for an upgrade that helps them in the playoffs

The issue some Fla fans mention was cap and anything they wanted to solidify for a run. Futures was the ask on HF boards.

What about Severson for Tippett? FLA isn’t trying to move him to move him. They want to solidify the roster.

So the 2nd would work? They could always flip it elsewhere.

I think maybe Subban for Tippett if the cap fit. But for Severson, it would take a great deal more. I am viewing Tippett as 2nd round value

Oof. I don’t think PK has that much value, even discounting his cap hit. I’d say Tippett is worth more than that, but at the end of the day I just don’t see NJD as a good fit with FLA’s needs.

No, Florida would really only trade him for an upgrade (probably an LD), as there is next to no point in just getting an extra 2nd round pick

And Severson has more value than Tippett
PK should get a decent return at tdl. Could we throw in a pick, sure.
Best route for us with Tippet for both parties is probably picks

Just saying that’s why it’s not a good fit. FLA wants roster players, not picks. Maybe Severson does have more value, I’m ambivalent on that.

Well, one point would be that Florida doesn't have picks to trade this year. That 2nd would be mid-30's.
NJD could also be landing spot to park some cap space too...if needed.
Or if they felt guys like Tatar or Johnsson were useful.
Otherwise, not sure there are many names on our roster that (a) we'd move along and (b) would be of interest to FLA

Everyone seems to know how Subban is playing better than Devils fans.
Which is weird...because I know most aren't watching him.

I think at 50%, he is probably worth a 2nd to some teams. Maybe more.
He is better than David Savard, Ramsus Ristolainen, who got 1sts...

PK (at 50%) + 2nd for Tippett + 4th (to third team for retaining)
Would be fairly generous offer from NJD.
If they needed RD, I suppose.

Tippett is in Draft +5 season and has yet to do much. Was tempted to throw a Jesper Boqvist + mid-pick at them, but not filling a need for them.

And JesBo looked like he was shot outta a canon last night! Maybe he DOES need to play higher in the lineup

I have always been a believer in Boqvist. Fastest guy on team, but you’d never know it by half his games. And I think he does better at center. Floats a bit on wing.

Maybe if they move more than just PK at the TDL he will play a bigger role and show what hes got

Subban?

If you retain half, so he fits under the cap, sure. Siegenthaler would probably be more interesting, as he is an LD and more defensive than Subban, though.

Devils aren't trading him though.
Youngish guy on a great contract, has been the 2nd best D in Jersey after Hamilton.
He's made himself part of their core now.

Yeah, the Panthers would probably have to add something. Siegenthaler would just be the most interesting guy you have.

Adam Graves would be dealt before Siegenthaler. And neither as likely or as cheap as Subban would be.

Do they need forwards at all?

Well, the reason they're selling Tippett is because they have too many good forwards ahead of him in the roster. I'd say the only scenario in which they trade him for a forward is of someone wants to give a better player than Tippett is, one for one.

Ryan Graves would be cool, too

Tomas Tatar, Andreas Johnsson, Pavel Zacha probably fit that description (although Zacha has been on cold streak lately)

Yeah. I can't say which one would be the most intriquing as all of them have their own strengths and woes, but all three would be an improvement over Tippett.
