Mikheyev has more use to TO than Toffoli does. And this package is ridiculous.

The Leafs don't need more wingers either.

Montreal wouldn't do that:

-Mikeyev is a pending UFA, he has no value to Montreal.
-Ritchie has less than no value to Montreal.

Which makes it Robertson a late 1st and a cap dump for Toffoli. That's not worth it to Montreal at full price, let alone with substantial retention to an arch-rival.

I like Toffoli but the asking price here is egregious.

Habs aren't trading Toffoli with term and retention to the Leafs. Those teams have traded twice in 14 years for this reason; they're not helping each other out.

I think it's a fair price. You're getting a hometown kid, 50-60 point winger who can play up and down the lineup for the rest of Matthews contract at 2 million bucks.

I think including Dermott instead of Mikheyev might be better but I also don't see why Montreal would balk at this. You're getting a first and a guy who can potentially play and grow with Caufield and Suzuki.

Montreal could do better than this WITHOUT retaining salary.

I don't think there's any coach in the NHL that wants to play too extremely undersized wingers on the same line.

And Montreal can probably get something like a 1st and 2nd without retention from a team in the West or just not Toronto. Is 2.1 mil retention plus taking on Ritchie worth Robertson and a UFA Mikeyev or Dermott? I sincerely doubt it. If Toffoli was available at 2.15 mil for 3 playoff runs than the market would be absolutely massive.

At 2.15 mil for three seasons... Definitely not egregious lol. He will avg 70pts playing on one of the top two lines with the leafs. Toffoli half retained for that long definately gets the equivalent of two first round picks. I'd rather Amirov over Robertson though.
